Kroger has a four day sale with $1.99 pork loin and $1.49 turkey breasts (bone in.)

Freezer meats are good, but I've tried to be less dependent on power. I canned a few cases of venison last year and rounded out short canner loads with pork loin and chicken breasts. All turned out very well. Pints of ready-to-eat meat on the shelf are very versatile and reassuring.

No venison this year as of yet, so I'm thinking of putting some turkey and pork on the shelf.
Or maybe I should just be hunting for venison?

    What say you?

I can about 1-2 deer a year. We are out. I have not had luck yet. Turkey on sale around the holidays at .69-.59 a pound is my back up.

My wife went to get a can a few weeks ago for beef and barley (venison) soup and we were out. She had to buy beef and was ticked at the prices. Later she was, I will get the kids out the door for school, you get out there and hunt. Win.

I've canned stewing beef but I have only canned venison when it is in chili. Do u can your venison as
chunks or do you have other recipes ?

I can it all in about 1" chunks, rear hams, all the large easy cuts to chunk, front shoulders I make italian sausage out of.

Raw pack throw in a beef bullion cube and can it. Hard to tell it from beef. Then its used in soups, chili, stir fry, indian dishes etc.

Do you still have the pics from the post you made a few years back? I looked it up, but the pics were gone.
