    I voted for the 91/30.

Though I have the M44, I bought it because 1) It's what they had and 2) The short barrel appealed to me for brush work.

It is not, however, accurate. The sight radius is too short. At 100 yards I can keep them all on an SR-1 target and that's about it. Plenty good for Nazi zombies, but not nearly as good as a 91/30.

Some 91/30s can do around an inch or two at that range.

After you get your first one, though, you'll end up wanting more... and you'll end up buying a couple carbines as well :D

I voted M38 because I'm biased.... I don't like the bayo much, and I have one. They do seem to be a bit harder to find in original stock form though.

    All of the above!

Actucally ou should listed a few others including 91/30 standard and 91/30 w/ Oxtagonal (aka hex) barrel.... heck, that's what I did ;) They are so cheap and shipping is only 2 bucks more per rifle (up to three)... like I said, get all three.

About $300 bucks shipped if you order all three at once. To quote a famous cajun: " You can DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO EIT!"

M38's are getting very difficult to find. It would be my first choice right now. After that, it's only whether you want a long gun (91/30) or a carbine (M44).

I have a M91/30 and a M44. My favorite is the M44. I prefer it because of its compactness and unlike others the bayonet. Around my AO there is no shots over 200 yards. you either hit a hill or tree. I find them adequate for what I shoot at.

I like the m44 i got mine in excellent near perfect condition,
I shoot 175-200 yards at open sights with life size targets. 95% of the time in kill zone, im very happy with mine..

I picked up a 91/30 last week and ready to get her out... Already thinking about an M38, not interested in the bayonet, i want to make a sporter out of it.

I have an M44 and a 91/30, haven't shot either of them yet, but I will shoot them Saturday at the Mosin outing, after that I will vote on it. Pre-shooting, I like the M44 carbine a little more, less awkward, I do like the folding bayonet. But as I understand it the 91/30s can be real tack-drivers with a little work, I'll likely "sporterize" my 91/30 with a synthetic stock and scope, etc.

As someone recently mentioned to me: The 91/30 is good for when you run out of ammo and need to bayo your target. From across the river.

That's no joke! That 91/30 with the bayonet fixed is hella-long! I put the bayonet on it last night standing in the kitchen and raised my rifle and promptly stuck it into the ceiling! I laughed my ass off because of how ridiculously long this gun/bayonet combo is!

    That's why I prefer the M44.

I want an M38 just for the non-bayo shooting. The M44 is designed to shoot with the bayo deployed. Without it, it shoots off to the right.

I voted for the M44 just out of preference. I've also got a hex 91/30.

Like others have said...get one of each or mix and match a 91 and one of the carbines. :)

LIke others, I have a M91/30 and a M44. I Like the M44 best. I do most of my hunting in Ky and there is no shots over 250 yards. I replaced the bolt with a custom one and mounted a scope. The m91/30 is to long for me in stands.

Well, the poll is closed now, but I would vote for the m44 after shooting it and my 91/30 today. The M44 is more manageable, and the fireballs are just wicked. Gotta love the muzzle flash that my M44 makes with this rough around the edges 1955 Bulgarian surplus 7.62x54!

As I see it, it doesn't matter which one you buy first. The damn things multiply and before you know it, you'll be looking for every variant you can find. Truthfully, by this time next year there is at least a 70% chance you will have the other two types and maybe even some Finn versions to go with them.
