Anyone use this powder for reloading anything? I bought an 8 lb jug for 458,but have never used it for any thing else. I reload 223 and 308, just wondering

For some .223 loaders this powder is their favorite..EVEN more so than VARGET!!

I think it may be become your favorite for 50-55gr. projectiles...Bill.

I use it for my mini and for a 700. I was looking for varget but couldn't find any
So I picked up the 4198. No complaints at all with it and the loads are generally less grains so you get more rounds per pound.

One other thing I might add is to research load data in a couple different places and work up. I believe the Hornady manual list max loads close to where Lyman starts there loadings.

I am loading 19.5 grains with a 55 grain bullet. Most of what I have read about 4198 for 223 suggest better performance with 55 grain and lighter bullets.

4198 is to 4895 what Titegroup is to Power Pistol.

Good thing you figured that out before you loaded some up. :)

I'm one of the guys who love it in .223. I mainly stay in the 18.5 to 19.1 grain range under a variety of 55gr bullets. It's a pain to measure but you already know that!

The IMR 4895 will work in the 223 and the 308 but you will not get the FPS that IMR 4198 will give you.

In my 223 I have a very accurate load but it is about 300 FPS less than what I get with IMR 4198. So I would say it is better for shooting paper than hunting.

I load all my target and plinking .223 with 17.5gr of 4198. I can get 400rds/lb (if I don't spill any, which never happens). It cycles all of my ARs including the 10.5" barrel and 24" barrel. My 16" dpms will shoot 1" groups at 100yds with it all day. It's probably my favorite powder.

Oh, and it's my favorite powder for 358 hoosier loads.
