Took that from the Illinois General Assembly page for House Bill 5855 which is the proposed "Assault Weapon" ban that will probably be voted in and signed by their little fat governor by the end of January. It does not mention non-resident car carry so that should not be affected if your carry piece is not capable of holding a mag with more than 10 rounds. The way it is written I do believe a Glock 26 10+1 will be illegal there because it will accept a Glock 17 mag. As is normal for Illinois parts of the proposed law are vague and stupid mostly because the ones writing the laws know nothing about firearms.
Nothing should get done on this until the first week of Jan, just wanted to give a heads up to be watchful if you are someone that must enter that socialist state. It will be ruled unconstitunial but could be a real big hassle to get busted before that happens I still have friends and relatives I see in Illinois so will be watching and will update as things happen.

I'm confused. It's already illegal for any non-resident to have weapon outside of a vehicle. The laws for having one in the vehicle are what you posted if you do not have a license in your home state.

Either you must not have posted the part you thought you did, or for some reason I am not seeing it. That is possible, as your message is formatted oddly on my screen.

So is traveling through IL with a loaded AR in your trunk prohibited?

I have no idea how it got formatted the way it did and I am not good at changing things. As of now a NR may transport a firearm as long as it is unloaded and in a case and does not have to be out of reach. Soon it will have to be in a locked container if in the passenger area of a vehicle with the ammo also locked up in something but not the glove box or console. This is also the first time the transportation of ammo has been addressed, as of now the firearm only had to be in a case and unloaded. Jim.

This "transport" exception posted above only applies to the "banned Assault Weapons" that are listed & categorized in the bill.

If you have a threaded barrel on your pistol, or a centerfire rifle <30", or a box-fed shotgun, yes it seems those must be unloaded & locked in the trunk for transport through the state.

I wonder how many IL residents are going to line up in July - Nov 2023 to register their "Assault Weapons" with the IL State Police?

    In the country, hopefully.
Hard to read and hard to understand, and that’s before any formatting problems!!

ETA the links in post 9 help to clarify, this is not law yet, so no need to start the rumors, but it is very bad if it were to pass.

Support those who are fighting it.
