Buried deep in the bowls of the legal mumbo-jumbo there is NO RECIPROCITY for non-Illinois residents . . . HOWEVER, there is a provision for non-residents to attain an Illinois license.

So our Indiana license is worthless in Illinois, but we can apply for an Illinois non-resident license. Not great, but better than nuthin :)

Haven't read the details, but what else would you expect from a state that is almost bankrupt and needs every $ it can get, as well as a state that thinks it knows better than every other state regarding firearms.

There are Democratic co-sponsors of this bill :rockwoot:

Most people don't realize that Illinois is actually pretty pro-gun in the southern 2/3rds of the state and both Democratic and GOP congressmen are at least reliably modestly pro-gun.

The reason they need to have a veto-proof super majority is that the Cook County/Chicago Democrats have enough sway over Gov. Quinn to get him to veto the bill. So if the vote is passed with a veto-proof super majority then it over-rides Chicago and shoves it down their anti-gun throats.

Yeah, I'm aware, I go down there yearly, but the northeast corner just continues to ruin the whole place.

Also, and more important than the veto is that this bill overrides "home rule" wherein larger municipalities get to make their own laws apart from the state. A state law that overrules laws in a "home rule" city have to be passed with a 2/3 majority. This is why they need the 70 or 71.

As far as the veto goes, if Quinn does veto the bill, I will bet that they will NOT override his veto. This same thing was done in WI a couple years ago. They passed the CCW bill with veto-proof majorities in both chambers, but after Doyle vetoed it, a few Dem lawmakers voted NOT to override to "support their governor". Same thing would happen in IL.

Even better is my choice... I don't go there!!! Screw them and all of the idiots like them.

My wife is from Illinois and so is her family. If I want to see them, I have to go through that whole mess of a state. It would be great if I could do so as I do every single day in Indiana, armed with a loaded firearm. I also know several gun guys who live there and hold Florida CCWs. I think we should try to turn around the misconception of gun owners that some .govs have.

Personally, I won't spend $275 for a permit. The one I have now is honored by 37 states - if Illinois won't honor it, then I have no reason to go there.

The socialist peoples republik of Illinois will never get LTCH unless they cut Crook county off into its own state. The Crook county criminal politicians run the state and last fall the voters gave them a mandate to continue to do so. Emanuel is at least as rabidly anti gun as Daley is.
