I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this so I apologize in advance. I have a stray cat that has become my outside mouser over the years. Last night something tore her up really bad. I'm thinking a raccoon. If I do have to put her down, would a .22 be sufficient? I don't want to fire off a bigger round inside city limits but I don't want her to suffer anymore than she already is either.

I used an air rifle to put one down before. One to the top of the head. Worked fine. Sorry to hear. Those outside mousers are great cats but they usually don't survive long.

Close range head shot would be the most humane way to dispatch.
Sorry to hear about your loss,

This.......I've had to do it more than once. Make sure you have more than one round in the gun or on your person and a rifle would be advised. Sounds like she was a good friend. A trip to the vet might also be an idea if you can afford it. They can put her out of her misery and you won't have to feel guilty for pulling a trigger. I personally have gone both ways. Neither is easy Sorry.
