Used and shot a lot. Enough to prove itself. Not plinked with, just sighted in or bought and never messed with. I tried to show my little experience. In every AR thread all we here is which guns run and which don't.

Oh seen an Adams arms that had the feed ramps cut so,bad the gun wouldn't work .
Seen lots of bad feed ramps but the gun is designed so,well it will power through most of them.
I'll post stuff as I remember it. My brain discards garbage so I can insert porn

I was with TT while working on a wide variety of guns. Even the occasional AK.

I'd buy an old bushmaster or windham all day long, even older Colts. New Windhams I'm not sure haven't ran into one in several years. New Colts on the other hand QC is lacking big time over there.

I don't like to say my guns are "wet" I prefer moist.

I have close to 10k ish through my M&P 15 carbine. Has always run like hell. Gets a little gunked up after about 3500 rounds, and I had 2 failure to feeds. Cleaned and no further issue. Left it outside on my balcony for a week, bolt was seized forward as it had rained. Kickstarted it, wiped bcg off on my shirt and ran a mag through it, no issue, cleaned and ran 2nd mag, no issues.
I run 3 gun and take classes with this rifle and it is still there plenty accurate.
My only mods are a scope, free float handguard and American gold trigger. Everything else is stock.

But can you operate with it?

I am no operator. I am a 3 gun shooter who also like to poke holes in things at medium distance (up to 500 yards). I understand the concepts of cover from my paintball days, but have never had to fight with my rifle. I hope to keep it that way, but if need be, I would be comfortable grabbing it, knowing it will do what I tell it to.

I have actually had very good luck with my M&P 15 as well. I got it from a member here years ago and have run it in a lot of classes. I mostly use my BCM now, but would not hesitate to pick up the Smith again.

I have experienced a variety of AR,s over the years.
Harrington & Richardson, AC Delco, FN, Colt, Rock River ect.
Conditions varied from shot out junk to fresh out of the wrapper.
I have witnessed some of the strangest AR malfunctions and operater error seen by man.
You can put a mag in backwards and chamber a round with enough force.
If you have a pop with no kick and fire another round you will normally blow the mag out and sometimes split the upper.
That being said most of the malfunctions were caused by wore out weapons or magazine related.
I do not have the spare time to build AR,s.
I slected the SIG M400 enhanced it runs flawlessly very accurate and if it breaks I send it back to SIG.
During the civilian classes it does seems that all of the weapons that have went down were
    " hand rolled".

I have an M400E I bought for my wife(Muddy Girl camo), and while it runs very well, the "extra" proprietary parts scare me just enough to stick to my BCM's, Colt, or LMT. I've not had any malfunctions in 2200 rounds, but...?

Inexpensive Bushmaster, nothing changed from factory except addition of quad rail. I sort-of-kind-of forgot this was in the safe and rediscovered it. I'd never fired it after acquiring it in a trade. I took it to our range today, had an armorer's inspection (it passed without issue) and then started to zero. It was a rather windy day, but I got it mostly dialed in before the gusts made it not worth it.

25y, kneeling with braced front hand, first 3 shots ever through the rifle:

I got left/right adjusted pretty quickly. Bottom group is two strings of 3, top is one string.

No pics after height adjustments, and the wind was getting so constant I didn't try to fine tune from the 50y.

Now, none of this says it'll run through a high volume training class...but I don't do those. 300 rounds is a long day for me, 90-120 is more normal. I do most of my practice with my pistol. So, if it will run 1k a day without maintenance is irrelevant to me.

I'm 100% positive there are more accurate guns. I also know that using irons and without bagging the rifle, this is about as good as I can do with a 16.5" barrel. I don't do remarkably better with my Colt, and it's full length. I also know it's good enough for what I want the rifle for.

Durability? Well, if I only shoot 2k or less a year through it...it's going to take me awhile to wear out even the cheapiest of cheapy guns.

So, objectively I understand there are better rifles. Subjectively, for my purposes and at my ability level, I don't know that the better gun would translate into any appreciable gain for me.

I cannot remember who used to say it on INGO, but he was brilliant, handsome, a sharp dresser and, above all, humble, but "when it comes to guns the objective is subjective."

I understand the fear of the M400,s one off parts. They seem to have improved the operation from what I have experienced. The rifle gets much hate frome the AR community. When I have confirmed zero at classes it seems like my groups are quite a bit tighter than most other AR,s?
