Hardware store branded guns

I know many hardware and department stores sold their own branded firearms that were manufactured for them by some of the major gun companies of the day. I recently acquired this Sears branded model 50, 30-06 from their J. C. Higgins line of guns. This gun has an FN Mauser action and a High Standard barrel. I believe it was produced by High Standard as well. This one was made in the early fifties. It is a fine rifle in great shape with it's original 2 1/2 power scope (also J. C. Higgins) made by Weaver.



What other store brand guns are out there?

Sears Model 200 is a Winchester Model 1200. Eastern Arms 12 gauge SXS is a Stevens 311.

I would like to know who made the single shot breakopen shotgun on the second page.

That shows you have much the dollar has lost in value since 1952.

Montgomery Ward had Western Field shotguns. I have my father's 20ga pump. From the design and markings I would bet it is a Mossberg.

Couple I know of still do.

That mossberg-ish action from Montgomery Ward or Western Field may have been a Hi standard, which took the design from Remington, and was subsequently taken by mossbering, ironically, and later ones were mossberg which yours may be.

JC higgens had a couple rifles and shotguns from marlin and mossberg, and hi standard if I remember right

Savage sold their 720 to them under the 740, 745 and others I believe, Ranger 120's 140's were Win 1200, 1300, and 1400's.

Glenfields levers were Marlins,

Savage 340s were some World name.

Those were all I could think of off the top of my head.

I have a bolt action single shot 16ga. shotgun marked JC Higgins. I have no idea who actually manufactured it. Sears store brand is about all I know of it.

My wife's grandfather had a single shot 20 (I think) shotgun and single shot 22 l/s/lr. Can't remember the exact brand. Steven's I think.
My Dad's uncle also had a .410 bolt action shotgun of the same brand.

Western Auto also sold early Mossberg models. The Revelation 100 is some kind of Mossberg design.

Sears also had a J. C. Higgins branded Sako L46 in 222 (model 52) and a Husqvarna mauser action in 30-06 (model 51L). Great guns and can be had at great prices (sometimes) due to the store brand names.

I have 2 JC Higgins Model 20 shotguns with the 3 piece powerpac chokes. They were made by High Standard one is 1948 and the other is 1952. Both are smooth and graet shooting guns
