I'm starting the process of a SBR AR and a buddy has offered up his factory 16" Windham barrel.

Do I have to have my stamp already in order to have the 'Smith cut it down, rethread barrel, and do the gas port work? I have talked to my future father in law and he said he would keep the complete upper in his gun safe, while I hold on to the lower.

Any input, or direction of research is greatly appreciated.

I believe, that as long as they are SEPERATE, you are ok... This has been posted B4, but I am not good at search ....

I'm sure it is posted somewhere, but the INGO search is VERY broad and I admit laziness in trying to find the correct text.

I'm just making sure I don't have to show paperwork to have a smith start their work.

While we're on the subject.. What is going rate for a barrel chop, threading, and some gas port work?
