Sadly my grandfather recently passed away. He was a big fisherman, hunter, trapper, and camper. When going through an old cedar chest in the spare bedroom we stumbled across a 1965-1966 Indiana hunting and fishing guide. I think that it is really cool and figured I would share this with the great folks of INGO as well. I am trying to do this all from my phone at the moment so if the pics dont work I am sorry and I will repost them tomorrow when I get a chance.

No problem I figured that some others would get some enjoyment out of it as I did. I was not even thought about then. I am an avid hunter, fisher and camper myself. I like to trap as well but don't get much time to do it anymore. Kind of fun to look at what the license cost then and what some of the game laws were.

    Super cool.

Deer tags were still $5.50 when I started deer hunting in 1968.

Yes, it was illegal to hunt on Sundays back then.

Is it OK to repost these pictures elsewhere? I'm sure others will find them very interesting.

    Thanks for sharing..

My condolences to you and your family.
I appreciate you posting the guide. I enjoyed reading it.
I was 15-16 years old at the time and I hunted rabbits, quail, and 2 legged deer.
4 legged deer were still pretty scarce around here back then. I started hunting them in 1972 after my enlistment.

    Interesting regulation

I just noticed that NR deer tags did not have an entry for 1965 but had $25.50 for 1966. I wonder if that means that NRs could not hunt deer in Indiana in 1965 and could in 1966?

I mean not that they would want to as deer were few and far between back then...

I'm sorry to hear about your loss. You're find is very interesting. Thanks for posting. It reminds me of my dad's boy scout books from the 60s. Fascinating to have a look back in time.

very interesting, I have been looking through National Geographic mags from the late 60's and early 70's lately. The ads for these new, state of the art, color televisions and the brand new for '72 Lincoln Continental for $7,000 are better than the articles.

Condolences to you and your family.

What a great find and something that will bring a smile and remind you of your grandfather.

Guess I'll be the first to say it.... I remember having that guide back then.
Would have never thought about it if you didn't post the pictures. Thank you.

2 legged deer? Never heard of them. I've heard of seeing double, were you perhaps seeing 1/2 instead?

Very cool pics. Can't believe a fishing license was only $3 back then!

Sorry about your loss and thanks for sharing. I was born in 1965 so I find this very interesting!
In 1965 A Hunting, Fishing and Trapping License was $2.50 but jumped all the way to $4.00 in 1966. But if you wanted just fishing in '66 it would still cost $3.00. I bet the internet hunting forums were ablaze with ticked off sportsmen complaining about this outrageous increase! lol

Where did you pick these up back then? I am assuming bait shops and places like that?
