The eastern world it is exploding
    Violence flarin', bullets loadin'
You're old enough to kill but not for votin'
You don't believe in war but whats that gun you're totin'?
And even the Jordan River has bodies floatin'

    armpit of the midwest
She came to me with a serpent's kiss
As the Eye of the Sun rose on her lips
Moonlight catches silver tears I cry
So we lay in a black embrace
And the seed is sown in a holy place
And I watched, and I waited for the dawn

There are 2 lines in the classic ballad about ballroom dancing I find especially moving, titled Big Balls sung by the late Bon Scott and AC/DC:
”I believe that my big balls should be held every night” and
“But we have the biggest balls of them all!”
I almost tear up just thinking about these moving lyrics.

Forces of evil in a bozo nightmare
Ban all the music with a phony gas chamber
    'Cause one's got a weasel
And the other's got a flag
One's on the pole, shove the other in a bag
    With the rerun shows
    And the cocaine nose-job
The daytime crap of the folksinger slob
He hung himself with a guitar string
    Slab of turkey-neck
And it's hanging from a pigeon wing
You can't write if you can't relate
Trade the cash for the beat
For the body for the hate
And my time is a piece of wax
    Falling on a termite
    Who's choking on the splinters

    I rode a tank
    Held a general's rank
    When the blitzkrieg raged
    And the bodies stank

    Pleased to meet you
Hope you guess my name, oh yeah
    Ah, what's puzzling you
Is the nature of my game, oh yeah

    I watched with glee
    While your kings and queens
    Fought for ten decades
    For the gods they made

This thread took me forever to get thought because I kept having to go to youtube and listen to the good songs people were quoting. Also, some people played a little fast and loose with the classification "Classic Rock n Roll". Those who quoted Gordon Lightfoot I'm looking at you.

Also, for what it's worth, the first quote that popped into my head was taken on the first page in post #14.

I asked my wife for the first classic rock quote that popped into her head and she said -

"The more I think about it, Old Billy was right. Let's kill all the lawyers, kill 'em tonight."

Reading over all these brought back tons of memories. No memory of a lyric tops getting called out in the Mess Hall during Airborne School at FT BENNING for talking when we should have been eating... The entire conversation was "Please pass the pepper. Thanks" " Your welcome" The Black Hat nearest us came unglued and told us if we had time to talk we had time to entertain our classmates. He went on to say... "Sing me some of that Madonna **** you all listen to in college." This was the summer of 1984 and 15+ members of my class were ROTC cadets. Neither me or my cohort from Middle Tennessee State University knew many Madonna songs. Quickly he asked if I knew the "Perfect country" song by David Allan Coe, the added verse. I said yes and he started off...

"Well, I was drunk the day my mom got out of prison
And I went to pick her up in the rain
But before I could get to the station in the pickup truck
She got runned over by a damned old train"

The Instructor grinned and walked away. Our classmates were entertained.

It was October in St. Louis town
When we heard that the Free Bird had fell to the ground
And we all said a prayer
Before we went down to play

    And Ronnie, my buddy
    Above all the rest
    I miss you the most
And I loved you the best
    And now that you're gone
I thank God I was blessed,
    Just to know you

    But it's all right now
    Keep on singin' loud
    It's all right now
    Heaven should be proud

    In the trees
Fitting for the times, I believe....

    "Yes, we know
    It’s nothing new
It’s just a waste of time
We have no need for ancient ways
    Our world is doing fine
    Another toy
    That helped destroy
    The elder race of man
    Forget about your silly whim
    It doesn’t fit the plan"

    Well, I hadn't intended
    To bend the rules
    But whiskey don't make liars
    It just makes fools
So I didn't mean to say it
But I meant what I said

    Too long in the wasteland
    Too long in the wasteland
    Must've gone to my head

And I remember what she said to me,
How she swore that it never would end.
I remember how she held me oh so tight.
Wish I didn't know now what I didn't know then.

    "Against the Wind," Bob Seeger
    Definitely my favorite song.

    The years rolled slowly past
    And I found myself alone
Surrounded by strangers I thought were my friends
I found myself further and further from my home, and I
    Guess I lost my way
    There were oh-so-many roads
I was living to run and running to live
Never worried about paying or even how much I owed
Moving eight miles a minute for months at a time
Breaking all of the rules that would bend
I began to find myself searching
Searching for shelter again and again

No worries. Still all GREAT tunes! 3 of my favorites. I consider Blind Faith to be one of the first "super groups" with their personnel. You had overlap between Traffic, Derek and the Dominoes and Cream. And of course Winwood was also with the Spencer Davis Group too.
"Can't Find My Way Home". The lyrics aren't that memorable, but the guitar playing in Drop D tuning is about as good as anything around.
