California needs to pull its head out for some fresh air.

If the old saying is true, "As California goes, so goes the country" then that explains why this country is going crazy. That's the location California is striding towards, anyway.

I assume the Teamsters will continue to support the Green leaning politicians as they have been, until they run out of employed members.

I had the opportunity to work with a major diesel engine manufacturer in trying to meet the clean air regulations and have to say that those mufflers, which are actually particulate traps, are as reliable as the weather forecasters. It doesn't take much to ruin them, they don't always work as advertised, and sometimes can fail to the point of damaging the engine itself.

When one considers how clean trucks have become, this latest hit against them smacks of another run against our freedoms. There comes a time when clean enough is good enough, and the fact that most motor vehicles are 96% plus cleaner than they were 30 years ago should be enough.

I know exactly what you are talking about. We had a safety meeting a while back and had a Cummins reps talk about the new motors. It costs an extra $20,000 per motor to put those piece of crap particulate filters in, which is actually part of the exhaust system. And like you say, they malfunction all the time. There is a "parked regen" switch that only works right when you pull off the highway and sit there for 20 minutes while you let it work. Sometime the little light comes on at random times, mostly while stopped and you get the nice diesel fumes coming into the cab while it allegedly burns the particulates out of the filter.

We're going to see owner-operators buying a lot of 2008 and older trucks for quite some time. In addition, these newer motors get worse fuel economy compared to the older ones.

That's the other thing the EPA and CARB don't tell you, it takes fuel to purge the particulate traps, which cuts into fuel economy, which cuts into profits, which increases costs and dependence on oil at a time we are trying to cut back.

    Fail on all counts!

These regs also hurt other parts of the trucking industry. They artificially loaded up on trucks in 08 to avoid buying 09 trucks. Doing so caused the companies to spend money on trucks that would have otherwise been used to buy other equipment.

Politicians at every level are either getting dumber or growing some serious balls. C'mon everybody, this isn't just some abstract violation of freedom, like limitations on a gun magazine. This is freedom rape and it's in public for all to see. While we just quietly lower our eyes and let them get away with it, because we don't want to be next.

They are punishing honest businessmen (and their employees) in an essential industry. While also punishing scientists and censoring research. What proffession isn't vulnerable to a hard butt-****ing by the government these days?

But seriously, attacking the freight industry?! This affects us all in the most direct way. If the cost of shipping goods goes up, then the cost of everthing in every industry, will rise. We all, myself included, need to look under the couch for our nuts and put these turds in their place.

Find out who is making the filters and you will find the source of the law, always follow the money. Corruption in california is no different than in new jersey, just different sounding names.
