Effective Range on HK91 .308

Hi all, not to spam, but to reply it says I need a post count of 10, so I suppose this should count towards it...

anyway, I was wondering the effective range of the HK91 .308

with both iron sights if you will, and I've seen a couple with optics, is it a rifle that is worth putting optics on?

and if so, scope type, or something like an acog red-dot variant?

The .308 cartridge has recorded kills well out beyond what the HK91 will do.
I would say the quality of the rifle would determine distance. Out of my M1a's, with a good scope and a better shooter than me, one could get a good 7 --800. Max range.
The build quality will be a determing factor, hands down. Do some internet searches on the subject. I'll bet you find your data on the rifle.

whats your target? if you take standard humanoid targets I cannot imagine getting consistant hits at 500 with irons. My very close friend has one and I have not been impressed with the accuracy. My BAR-10 will outshoot it all day long.

The HK91 like the AR is able to shoot MOA groups if set up right.

i suppose another question would be,

is this a good rifle as an alternative to an AR? for mid-range targets of humanoid stature?

Minute Of Angle. Roughly 1" groupings for every 100 yards of distance.

Is this an actual HK or one of the clones. Do you know who made it?
