Very pleasantly surprised at their clarification.

The whining and pearl clutching on DNR's Facebook post about it, however, is Picard Double Facepalm-worthy.

I'm pretty happy since I like oddball calibers, all my 30's have weird names like Norma mag, H&H, and Savage:) Plus now my son can use my 6mm this fall!

Of course I just worked out a 168gr Amax load in a factory 700 that put 5 shots into 0.53 MOA...reading the clarified reg is now beckoning me like a siren to build that 6x45 I've been rolling around in my head.

    18" barrel, 2500fps+ with a 105 Amax over 8208XBR, recoil not much more than a 223...

It seems rather obvious that in an attempt to limit things a bit they went with two calibers.
    .24 and .30
Clarification takes it well past the 5 cartridges they could have proper named.

No cartridges with a bullet diameter between .243 and .308 are legal......

Now that's just stupid right there. I'd want to see the discussion notes leading to that specific decision. Permitting the .243 Win but not .270 Win? Someone has be doing this on purpose as a joke.

Additional cartridges that are legal under HEA 1231 include, but are not limited to, the following:

    • 6mm-06
    • 6mm BR Remington
    • 6mm PPC
    • 6mm Remington
    • .240 Weatherby
    • .243 Winchester
    • .243 Winchester Super Short Magnum
    • .30 Carbine
    • .30 Herrett
    • .30 Remington AR
    • .30-06 Springfield
    • .30-30 Winchester
    • .30-40 Krag
    • .300 AAC Blackout (.300 Whisper)
    • .300 H&H Magnum
    • .300 Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum
    • .300 Savage
    • .300 Weatherby Magnum
    • .300 Winchester Magnum
    • .300 Winchester Short Magnum
    • .300 Remington Ultra Magnum
    • .308 Marlin

I'm going to form some 7-08 ammo out of 308 cases and put a sticker over the caliber designation and hunt

They should have consulted a gun guy before showing how clueless they are

This is a test period, therefore the limit of calibers.
It's not just about guns, it's also people management..........and some are not deer hunters.

    Incremental approach...........probably why it passed.
