    • .30-30 Winchester
    • .30-40 Krag
    • .300 AAC Blackout (.300 Whisper)
    • .300 H&H Magnum
    • .300 Remington Short Action Ultra Magnum
    • .300 Savage

I'm glad that was clarified this soon.
And I'm somewhat surprised the Russian cartridges are included.
I have some misgivings about the .30 Carbine.
I realize that deer have been taken with everything from .22 shorts to elephant guns, But the .30 Carbine is fairly weak as far as kinetic energy.
I like the .30 Carbine, the cartridge and the guns, but I wouldn't chose one to deer hunt.

I am pleased by the liberal scope of DNR's clarification, based on the wording of the bill signed by Pence...but am too surprised at the inclusion of 7.62x39 and 7.62x54R given their nominal bullet diameter is .312.

30 Carbine will be fine, its energy is practically identical to a 357 Magnum carbine which is already legal as a PCR...and I'd like to think the type of person that would choose to hunt deer with a M1 Carbine would be more proficient than the average bear...

I am interested to see a full detail of the regulation that comes out.

I don't like the fact they name 45-70 as an excluded cartridge. Since they are expressly excluded, I would be nervous about using mine even though I trim the cases down.

I stand corrected on that. I looked at a few ballistics charts and found that the two are fairly close.
On the Hornady site a .357 Magnum 140 grain Lever...whatever has a few ft. lbs. of kinetic energy more than the Hornady .30 Carbine 110 grain FTX. Both are somewhere between 650 and 700 ft. lbs.
It's been my experiance that .30 Carbine premium ammo can be difficult to find. I do still have a small stash of Speer Gold Dot .30 carbine ammo set aside.
Jack O'Conner recommended a minimum of 1,300 ft. lbs. of kinetic energy for whitetail deer. There are much better bullets now than when he wrote that.

    So I can't neck down a 30-06 to shoot a 270 bullet? (/sarcasm)

Yes, but only if you use my recently invented step-bullets. The base of the bullet is .308 but the body is .270. I think I will make a million dollars with this one. I think I'm on to something here. What if a base and body were held together with a magnesium core that burned away is it flew. The base would drop away leaving the body to travel on its merry way.

Seriously, what if you used a .308 to .270 sabot? like the 30-06 Accelerators (.22/30-06) in the 90s?

All of those calibers that they show as now 'legal' for hunting deer, is great, But I will never understand them not including my BEST big game rifles, WIN 70 in .270, and REMMY .25-06.

Accuracy was poor to horrible.. My brother and I played with some of the sabots on the market years ago and getting them lined up / concentric / strait to the bore was impossible... If the bullets were not lined up perfectly the bullet would loose yawl and with that accuracy suffered greatly..
