I looked at a 4in Python today.I would call it a very nice shooter. The question i have is,The side plate had a purple/plum look to it.The rest of the gun had a nice deep blue with a little muzzle wear.
    Is that normal? :dunno:
    Thanks in advance

Ruger used to have a lot of that going on. IIRC the color might be slight at first and change with time.
    Cosmetic.
Maybe the sideplate was reblued by?
Maybe it wasn't and is just of a different heat treat (or whatever process causes the discoloration)?

I wouldn't think that that was normal for a Python. They were known for their beautiful blued finishes. The prices on these guns is crazy high. I would expect to get a very good price for one with a bluing flaw like this. Is it possible that this gun has a replaced side plate?

I have not seen lots of Plum on Colt revolvers. In fact Other than some real old ones no plum on diamondback or pythons. They used a solution to blue these that the EPA would not allow today.
