Anyone have any recommendations for an affordable bump helmet. It doesn't need to be an opscore and I won't by a team Wendy. It probably won't see any hardcore use but I want to be able to mount comms and possibly a NV monocular. I wore a cheap airsoft one of a buddies at the range and it worked fine but I'd like some safety certifications for it. The DLP says it's ANSI and a bunch safety stuff. But I haven't seen much of them.

Hard head veterans? No personal experience with it but others say it's nice. I get not wanting to buy a TW, but it is a super nice helmet.

Not sure why you won’t buy Team Wendy, or don’t want an Opscore. Hard Head Vets like named above has some decent offerings. But if you want to go cheap, go to a skate store, or bicycle shop, pick a helmet, and buy the add-ons, bump helmets were derived from skaters and bmx gear.

I'm not opposed to an opscore but it doesn't need to be on that level but if I could find an affordable one I would get it. As far as team Wendy it's the Clinton stuff usually I'm not that kind of guy but if I'm dropping that much money I'd prefer none of it went to the democrats.

I'm going to look into the hhv helmet and now that I think of it I think a buddy in the IGR has a PT helmet I can check out.

The parent company of Team Wendy back in the Clinton era sold Team Wendy after that. The new parent company escapes me at this time though.

Edit to add the Parent company is Avon Protection.

TW bump is great. If you read into the actual story its not as blown out of proportion as it was made to be. As others have mentioned, the company has since been sold.

I sold my xfil bump and picked up the sl ballistic from them. I really think the boa system in their helmets is hard to beat. Especially paired with 4D pads. I have tried gentex, opscore, crye, and i think the TW is the most comfortable (probably preference).

Yeah, hindsight being 20/20 I would have gone TW over my opscore.

The padding system works and isn't horrible, but it's not as comfortable as it could be.

I certainly wouldn't recommend someone shoot for something lesser unless you don't intend to wear it lol.

Dumb question time- why do they call it a bump helmet?

I opted for the classic. Bought it from a fellow INGOer.

Bumps are a lot more comfortable for casual use. There is a significant weight savings and once you start hanging nods off the front, comms, counterweight etc... There are benefits to a ballistic helmet over a bump, but most of us won't get time in a live fire shoot house or need it for work. I personally won't have my RNVG's in a live fire shoot house anyways lol. surplus lvl2 helmets can be had cheap enough to keep in a bug out bag, but for me as a casual user the bump helmet will see the most use.
