Marion County Fish and Game's Bowling Pin Match will be this Saturday, March 23rd at 1 PM. Setup will begin at 12:15 PM and we would appreciate the help of a few volunteers. The Safety Meeting (required for new shooters) will be at 12:45 PM to explain the rules. At 1:00 PM, we will begin shooting.

We may shoot pins. We may shoot Texas Stars. Come prepared for both.
If the temperature is above 42F, (which is the current forecast) we will probably shoot bowling pins.

If there is severe weather, the match may need to be canceled. I will try to send an e-mail and post an announcement in the Shooting Sports section of www.ingunowners.com by 11:00 AM if it is obvious the weather isn’t going to cooperate.

The cost is $3 per bracket for club members and $4 per bracket for non-members. All money goes toward the club and/or making the competition better. Youth (under the age of 18) shoot free with a paid adult.

Bowling Pin Shooting is conducted under a COLD RANGE. That means all guns must be holstered (or bagged) at all times, unloaded, hammer down, with no magazine inserted. You may only handle your gun at the direction of a range officer (RO), or at the designated "safe table". Violation of this or any other safety rules shall result in a match disqualification.

If you have any questions about the match, please read the rules posted at: www.IndyRange.org (look under "Programs and Events" > "Bowling Pins") If you are unable to find an answer posted in the rule, please feel free to email me.

If you are interested in shooting Pin Heads, bring your .22 LR's (pistol or rifle). Also remember you can shoot your BUGs (Backup Guns). The class is limited to .38SPL snub nose revolvers and .380’s pocket pistols loaded with 5 rounds. 3 pins are set on the table at the minor position and the pins must leave the table just like regular brackets. The challenge is both in the shooting and the reloading of your weapon.

If you are willing to help as an RO or help keep score, that would be greatly appreciated.

Hope to see you on Saturday.

Looks like I am going to be up late making some ammo for this.

Dang it, why didn't I prepare for this. Oh well, who needs to sleep, right? See you all tomorrow!

How's the round count for this? I don't usually burn much ammo with TX stars as long as I can stay off the dueling tree, but this will be my first pin shoot (possibly).

I would say that you will go through a similar amount of ammo compared to Texas Stars.

We use the same head-to-head competition format. If you lose the first heat in a bracket, you are moved over to the Second Chance bracket.

So if you win, you are probably only using 5-8 rounds per heat, but you will be shooting more heats than if you only shoot two or three times per bracket.

Does it look like it will be pins?

    Looking very much like pins!

If people would like we could shoot one of the brackets tomorrow with full size pins at the back edge of the table. This can be done w/ .22LR which would allow everybody to conserve a little bit of their center fire ammo.

Also, I'd be surprised if we don't have a number of people eager to shoot pin heads. So two reasons to bring your .22's!

I thought about heading down today, but I'll wait until I can get a couple more mags for my MKII Ruger.(only have 3). What distance are the pins shot at?

You'd be fine with 2 mags. I don't think I even used the second mag in my High Standard and I wasn't dominating the match by any means. After 1 mag in pinheads you've likely either cleared the table or stopped shooting because your opponent has.

Distance wise what? 7-10yds? I suck at judging shooting distances. Someone will be along with a more certain answer.

Pin heads and full size pins shot with a major caliber (.40 S/W and larger) are 28' from the front edge of the shooters box. Pins are 29' feet away when shooting a minor caliber (9mm & .38 SPL).
