Not the usual M38 but a re-worked M91 to the M38 style. They have hex receivers.

Mine is an Isvevsk 1906 receiver. I was curious and looked at it again and it is a parts matching gun with an unobtrusive import mark near the end of the barrel. The bolt is the pre 1938 single milled type 1 bolt so correct for the receiver. No grinding marks so I am pretty sure all parts are correct.

I Don’t know what a 91/38 is but here is my mosin that I purchased in the 1990’s. All matching numbers. Looks like yours other than mine has a round barrel. It’s a great shooter and sure makes a fireball.

I put a scout scope on my M38. No gunsmithing required since it uses the original sight base.

She wanted the original scope, plus the scout scope did not hold a zero. I think she paid $120 for the rifle, $300 for the scope, and around $150 to the gunsmith(back when Gander mountain was in Greenwood and had an on site gunsmith)including head spacing the bolt(was sacrificed from a 91 I had). She wanted it done, it made her happy. It was her money. Happy wife happy life back then lol. It does shoot well and holds a zero.

The 91/38 is a cut down ex-Dragoon M91 hex receiver. The 91/59 is a cut down 91/30 round receiver and would say 1891/59 on the receiver. Yours looks like an M38 with an M44 stock which is real common for these. I think these carbines handle very nicely.
