I've tried almost all of the Glocks and although they're nice guns they just never fit my hands well. I looked into the M&P compacts and they fit me just right. I ended up going with the 40 as I could have basically have two guns in one for only the cost of a barrel. Plus I wanted the larger caliber for EDC. I use the 9mm barrel when shooting along side my subgun so I don't have to sort brass. I actually prefer the 40 when shooting though. An Apex FSS trigger made it more to my liking. It's all about what works for each individual. Not having a thumb safety is taking some time to feel comfortable with though.

Yeah I probably should've been a bit more Martha Stewart about this and sold my Glock BEFORE coming out of the Gloset. :D

I looked at Glocks when I was shopping for a .45 but found that the grips felt too much (as someone else said) like 2x4's (guess I've got the sausage link fingers too!), and I tried the XD/XDM's and while they fit me better than the Glock, the M&P fit me the best. I think you made the right decision for you too!

And I was upgrading from this (my first handgun):

Not unless you wanna catch M&P Disease. Apparently its going around!
Oh I've already got it! It's in remission now that I have one... I just wanna shoot at lovemywoods property! I go to my sister and bro-in-law's place and they have a pond with a raised berm like that, but their house gets in the way for long range rifle shooting... I wonder if I could talk them into moving their house? The walk-out basement would be problematic I guess... :):
