A Country Founded by Geniuses but Run by Idiots

    Attributed to Jeff Foxworthy:

If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a license, but not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you have to get your parents’ permission to go on a field trip or to take an aspirin in school, but not to get an abortion — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you MUST show your identification to board an airplane, cash a check, buy liquor, or check out a library book and rent a video, but not to vote for who runs the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government wants to prevent stable, law-abiding citizens from owning gun magazines that hold more than ten rounds, but gives twenty F-16 fighter jets to the crazy new leaders in Egypt — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If, in the nation’s largest city, you can buy two 16-ounce sodas, but not one 24-ounce soda, because 24-ounces of a sugary drink might make you fat — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If an 80-year-old woman or a three-year-old girl who is confined to a wheelchair can be strip-searched by the TSA at the airport, but a woman in a burka or a hijab is only subject to having her neck and head searched — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If your government believes that the best way to eradicate trillions of dollars of debt is to spend trillions more — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If a seven-year-old boy can be thrown out of school for saying his teacher is “cute,” but hosting a sexual exploration or diversity class in grade school is perfectly acceptable — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If hard work and success are met with higher taxes and more government regulation and intrusion, while not working is rewarded with Food Stamps, WIC checks, Medicaid benefits, subsidized housing, and free cell phones — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If the government’s plan for getting people back to work is to provide incentives for not working, by granting 99 weeks of unemployment checks, without any requirement to prove that gainful employment was diligently sought, but couldn’t be found — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If you pay your mortgage faithfully, denying yourself the newest big-screen TV, while your neighbor buys iPhones, time shares, a wall-sized do-it-all plasma screen TV and new cars, and the government forgives his debt when he defaults on his mortgage — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

If being stripped of your Constitutional right to defend yourself makes you more “safe” according to the government — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.

    What a country!

How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!

To the liberals who think that conservatives are just obstructionists and in the way of progress, read the above carefully, because this is why we want you to fail. This is why we'd prefer nothing the government attempts to do to succeed--because it is all disastrously stupid ideas by a bunch of bird brains who fail to think about the big picture.

For the Conservatives that think Liberals are solely responsible for all the above, read carefully... because your politicians are just as guilty.

You'd think after watching this country completely fall apart... after all the bad policy over the last 100 years... after scandal after scandal... finally, people would realize that it isn't the Elephant or it isn't the Donkey... but its simply just government as a whole that is dragging us into the sewer.

If this country ever has any hope of avoiding a complete meltdown we are going to have to abandon this Crip vs Blood mentality in politics. All of this back and forth finger pointing is getting us nowhere. We should only be pointing 1 finger at the government

For the Liberals and Conservatives that think government agencies can swing left and right, depending on the party of the president in the office...There's the New World Order; The CFR, Bilderberg Group, and the ultra rich run the governments. They are not idiots, they have their plans and they have made a lot of progress. The Obama administration is just the newest, most aggressive administration so far, or at least in the last 60 years.

They want you to watch the Left and the Right and not what they (NWO) are doing.

Everyone is right the problem is that at this point we have to decide who is going to do the most immediate damage by their policies.

Maybe we should all just start voting for the worst candidate in hopes they get on with the collapse.

The sooner it falls, the sooner we can pick it up.... With any luck, the collapse will happen in an era when there are generations still alive that will have a clue on how to rebuild this country properly.

Just imagine if it doesn't collapse for 50 more years and the generation of knuckleheads being born now will be in charge of fixing it? :n00b: If it collapses in the next 20 years, we might have a chance.

The sad part is this was supposed to be a humorous post...

Are both the Liberals and Conservatives so blinded in this country to realize all they both do is to further feed that ever growing **** pot that is the corrupt political system in the US?

Isn't "R" or "D" as one is as bad as the other about polarizing this country and not working to actually fix anything they've been elected to do.

For once when amusing posts like this come up can we all just take them for what they are, political humor...

There is still a difference between R and D, between Liberals and Conservatives. And if you doubt that you were not paying attention at all during the first three months of 2013 in relation to the gun ban efforts. If the anti gun efforts of the Democrats is not enough to convince you of the difference then you need to take another look at the scandals of recent, really take a look. After all "What does it matter".

Merely a product of the intended design... By Intended I mean the Robber Barons and the sort. i believe right around the late 1800s or early 1900s this was the intention...

    BTW I LOVE the OP!

This isn't actually from Jeff Foxworthy, but it's eye opening nonetheless. A lot of good points were already made on here so I won't reiterate them but a lot of rep to go around.

snopes.com: A Country Founded by Geniuses but Run by Idiots
And once again Snopes manages to tell a half truth and make someone look as though they don't really disapprove of "O".
Their statement that the sentiment of the quotes falsely attributed to Foxworthy don't really reflect his political beliefs is decidedly not true.
From interviews that I've seen him give it's obvious that Foxworthy is somewhat to the right of John Wayne in his political beliefs.
Thats why I never go to Snopes for confirmation of any political question.

Snopes is an extremely left wing bias site. Not trustworthy in the least.

It wasn't the political agenda side of snopes but that fact that Jeff Foxworthy's own brother stated that Jeff didn't say it. In that particular regard, I would consider it a trustworthy source.

Maybe my ADD riddled dyslexia kicked in but I read the OP and I see a non-partisan jab at the current state of progressive-transformed America. And on queue, we're all ready to jump and point fingers at "the other side" while we're all culpable, at least at some level.

In my opinion, those idiots being referred to is us.

Term limits and a Balanced Budget Amendment are the only ways to end this nightmare. Where does it lead? BHO has spent more than all the previous presidents COMBINED! Where has that gotten us? NOWHERE! We used to be able to grow our way out of financial problems, but no more. Heck, we even ran a surplus till the mid 80's! Now all we do is throw money at a problem instead of telling people to man up and take responsibility for yourself. We need the govt to make working for yourself to be so easy and so financially viable that everyone does it. Cut entitlements and welfare and make those programs onerous to make people loathe getting that check. Make the conditions so bad that people won't even want to apply! Cut the size and scope of govt every year to the point of being ran by a skeleton crew. Business does it, why not the govt? If we don't have the money, we don't spend it. It has been tough but the states are doing it. Why can't the Fed? Wake up people, we have the govt we want because no one is willing to change it. DEMAND CHANGE!

They were right that it wasn't Jeff Foxworthy.

Even a broken clock is right twice a day. When they lied about something as serious as the WMD in Iraq issue, it will be a cold day in Hell that I would trust them. As it were, they embraced the Joe Wilson declaration that Iraq never had nor attempted to acquire yellowcake even after such a bastion of right-wing extremism as ABC news reported that we had captured and sold the yellowcake in question to a Canadian energy company.

After this, I am completely unmoved that they were correct and truthful regarding the fact that Foxworthy was not personally responsible for that particular bit of cleverness.
