As some of you may have seen in my other posts, I am looking into getting a 22 rifle/pistol. The only problem is, I don't have any ammo...I'm planning on going to the 1500, and I was wondering if you guys could help me on what a good price was. I have never bought ammo, and I would rather not be the guy that pays $5 for 25 rounds like I saw on a previous thread... While I know that is ridiculous, I don't really know what a good price per round is. Any price I've seen for 22LR was before the shortage...Help?

Before the most recent shortage, bulk .22s were about 4 cents apiece, about 10 cents for higher-end .22s. I've had sufficient stock that I can't really comment on what is a good price currently.

I've found .081 cents to my door via mail order for average quailty (Federal Auto Match from Natchez). Locally the best I've seen (when I've rarely seen it in the last 7 months) is 0.117593 out the door. I don't think you'll see prices that low at the 1500. I think although things have improved the gouging is not done yet.

Before the shortage you used to be able to get a bulk pack of .22 (500 to 555rds) anywhere from 19.99 to 24.99. Aimsurplus has Czech surplus .22 for sale that I have actually read pretty good reviews about and its $5 per 50 (which isn't cheap) but it's available

Cabelas and WalMart, when they have it in stock, sell bulk packs of 500 to 525 rounds for about $23.50 to $25. That is under 5 cents per round.

I refuse to pay more than that and have been able to get it twice, in the past 30 days, at that price.

That is what I have seen online, I just wasn't sure if it would be a stretch to find it at that price considering the situation.

I wasn't expecting to see that low of prices at the 1500, but when it is all you can find...

This is accurate for bulk ammo.

I don't think I'd waste your time looking for a good deal at the 1500 for 22's. The gougers are in full force there. Last time I saw a guy that broke the bulk packs into tiny 50 round ziplock baggies (think crack bag for shooters :):) and was selling them for $8. Not sure but it looked like Thunderbolts that could be had for 97 cents a couple years ago.

It can easily be found at most Wal-Marx for this price if you use the Ap. You just need make sure what time they put the ammo out and what days the trucks come in. In East Central the Ap has been accurate most every time. In the month of July I picked up 3 Winchester 555 packs, 3 Winchester M22 1000 round packs and several Remington 225 packs. Most all of our shooting is done with 22's for now. Over half of that ammo is gone. If I pick up 3 bulk packs then 2 get shot and 1 goes into the ammo can for storage until supply is back to normal.

Last 1500 I saw Remington 525 packs for $75 & $80 - totally insane. Dicks & Walmart prices are reasonable when you can find it. Keep in touch with your LGS as they will sometimes get some in. Check Rural King if one in your area.

Before all of the hype, a 525 box was $25 or so IIRC.

Stick with the large retailers to avoid gouging, or just keep an eye on slickguns.com. You'll find something, I've been able to come across 22 bulk at reasonable prices regularly over the last few months.

I was at Dicks yesterday in Lafayette and they had standard velocity CCI @ $40/ 500 rounds. I had a $10 off card and paid $32+ for the first 500. I left and came back and another person was behind the counter so I got the second 500 at the $40 because I knew a friend that had none. They had plenty to sell yesterday afternoon.

Wow, good deal on cheap ammo, but that stuff won't cycle, tried to fire them off quickly on my marlin .22. Jam/eject problem every 2 or 3 shots. Loaded it up with cheap thunderbolts and got off 18 shots in 5 seconds.

Brought a friend along and got 2. Good deal.
