Here is a neat story about a judge in Iowa who appears to really "get it". A local sheriff denied a man and his son firearms permits because of their political activity in the community - writing letters to the editor and pamphleteering. The man had a permit for quite a while but was denied during the renewal process.

The verdict - the Sheriff has to take a Con Law class at a university that focuses on the 1st amendment.

Its my understanding that situations like this won't arise in the future as Iowa is now a shall issue state. :rockwoot:

Some great quotes by the judge as well...

Good on that judge! Looks like the plaintiff might also have grounds to sue the sheriff for violating his civil rights. The sheriff got off way too easy in this case.

Sadly the 20 year old son got screwed. Denied a permit because of who your father is.

What do you want to bet that the sheriff has a deputy assigned to following them almost 24/7 to watch for even the smallest of screw ups?
