Thanks for the replies, I was leaning towards chips from what I had read

    Which 1911 did you get?
IF you can figure out the Pics posting send us some pics. Lots of love on the 1911s.
IF you bought one of the very expensive 1911s I don't want to see it and I don't like you already.

Metalform mags also get mentioned quite a bit. I believe they produce a lot of OEM magazines.

In 45 cap I am a big fan of the Wilson Service Mag Plus for a flush fit 7 rounder and the Wilson ETM for an 8 rounder.

I bought some metalform mags after one of our esteemed counsellors recommended them. No issues with them so far, but have only used them a couple of times so far.

I would suggest Mec-Gar. I shot NRA Action Pistol for many years winning State and Regional titles. In Action Pistol a malfunction will cost you the match and place you at the bottom. I never had a Mec-Gar magazine fail me, they are all I used in competition.

Wilson are very good. But I've got some plane Jane ones and they work just as good, but I don't shoot as much as other guys do.

For that gun run the 7 round flush fit Wilson Service Mag+. Those scandium gun cycle pretty fast and you will need a magazine with plenty of spring in it to get the next round in place. Also the feed lip design can affect feeding depending on the ammo. With factory ball or hollowpoints the hybrid feed lip design helps control feed the round. Wilson ETM or 47d magazines release the cartridge too soon and can result in failure to feed. Good news is the Service Mags MSRP is only $19.95 so they are affordable. Plus the mags are flush fit which further reduces the profile of the roundbutted gun. Yeah you give up a round of capacity but the factory mags were good 7 rounders that just so happened to hold 8.

Trust me on this one. I chased the occasional hiccup until I figured all of this out for myself.

My luck has been Wilson 47D, and Chip McCormicks. I bought a couple of Kimber Tacticals(stainless), and they do well. My Rock Island also likes 230 gr FMJ, and even some cheapie US Contract mags(have lot#, and dates stamped in bottom=in brown wrappers, around 10-12 $, each 7 rds)
I own 2 Colt OEM mags that won't feed more than 3 rds at a time. Swapped springs w/ contract mags, no change. Range use only.
    Defense- Wilsons never an issue.
