Mom wants to sell my boyhood home to me out in extreme NE Hendricks county. Low enough density that nobody wants to install internet infrastructure. I need fast internet at home for work, and even cell service there isnt that great for a cell hotspot. I MIGHT be able to make do with Starlink. So with that limitation, moving out there is a no-go.

I got excited a few years ago. I saw directional boring gear out there burying something down the mile length of her road. Sure enough, a big spool of fiber appeared. Even more exciting. But what was odd, is the fiber was running down the side of the road with only 2 houses (and farm fields) . How are they going to connect the houses? bore under the street 40x?

Then everything disappeared and there were only a couple pedestals on the entire length. Turns out it was long haul fiber, not last mile fiber. Her road just happened to be where they wanted to go. :tantrum:
We are out in the sticks in Union County and got Starlink a few months ago. Within a month, Spectrum had fiber across the street. While Spectrum's cost is half that of Starlink, I decided to stay with Starlink. Bad experiences with Spectrum in Carmel, and the fact that I had already paid for the Starlink hardware influenced my decision. We have had ZERO issues with Starlink. Bandwidth is fine. I can stream movies from my Plex server in Carmel without any problem. Don't make Starlink a deal killer - it will probably fulfill your needs.

FWIW, if you decide to make the jump you can sell/transfer your starlink equipment.

Not here. 40' elevation changes with tons of hills and ravines.
I wish you the best. Never underestimate the power of encroaching civilization though.

I got my woods, pond, creek, and hills. Now I have to chase out trespassing, trappers, loggers.

Always carry a camera. I take pictures of every trespasser. They don't know how quiet us mountaineers are and I can usually get within feet of them before they know I am there. Then I tell them don't ever deny you were here before ifni see you again you know better.

No matter where you are ,it's always something.

I've got all that without the trespassers. It pays to be in the sticks with woods, fences and gates.

I drive through your neighborhood hood several times a year. It ain't done.

I concur, plenty of fields around him still. But, hopefully he can cash out when he makes his exit in the not to distant future.

I have a right to faster internet. I found out a co-worker in VA has like 1gb/s download and 600mb/s upload! WTF? And he pays less!
That seems weird, the ratio between those two is usually somewhere in the 12:1 to 16:1 range for non-fiber, and fiber usually has download and upload speeds that are close to the same and often >1 gig

Any idea what exactly he has?

All I gotta say to people b*tching and whining about white people is, show me a race or current civilization that's doing better. Most of the blacks that love to celebrate their "African heritage" would be horrified if they had to go scrabble in the dirt with the rest of the Africans in Africa.
    That's our fault, too

I will see what I can do…. Yes, faster internet in rural areas will let all of us white guys finally learn about what the gubmint is doing to our rahts. This is where the mythical “silent majority” lives. In the woods and blissfully unaware of the wider world, because of slow internet. I hear tell there is something called “amazing, Amahon, Amazon, or something g like that where you can tell total strangers to bring stuff to you on trucks. Apparently all you have to do is give them some numbers off of a piece of plastic! Not even money or gold!

Its great unless you live on the wrong side of the street. I think it was 116th a bit west of 31. Had a client a couple years ago who needed high speed access to his estate's gate house for cctv.

We had to go wireless because doing it via internet wasnt an option. He could only get DSL even though the cable provider's aerial cable was across the street. They literally refused to cross the RoW to sell him service. He was paying for two lines of DSL. One landed in the gatehouse for his gate control/intercom and one up to the house for internet. He would have to connect to the gatehouse through the ATT internet. But it wasnt fast enough to add video to the mix.

We ended up installing a point to point wireless bridge so he could install a camera out there.

That was a good article. Breitbart, so a right leaning pub, but the numbers seem about right. what I do t u deer stand is why dem led areas keep voting themselves into this Time and again. They literally don’t learn and want the rest of us brought to their level. I get the corrupt leaders, what I don’t get are the millions of people that vote for it.

I think part of it is even smaller dem cities lend themselves to machine politics, think of the way unions are organized where the top officers are independent of the desires of the membership and do as they please while horse trading for special rights and carve-outs. Then, on top of that, captive media successfully paints republicans/conservatives as heartless skinflints who don't care about the little people and will gut benefits for the working lass in order to fund tax cuts for the wealthy

Obligatory example of out of touch union officials

The rank and file will probably vote for this nonsense too. Other than communist literature, the o ly time I see people referring to class and “wealth” in when democrats and unions speak. They constantly stir up class differences, while saying that is what conservatives are doing. At some point in the distant future, people studying our society are going to come to the conclusion that we were idiots.
