I love people that think all wheel or 4 wheel drive will stop them from sliding.
For most of the idiot people who drive 4wd or AWD, the way they drive only gets their vehicle stuck father away from where the tow truck can reach to rescue them.

For people with Cook County or Chicago city stickers on the windshield of a 4wd or AWD vehicle the % of "idiot people" increases to a 100% certainty.

4x4 or AWD won't stop you from sliding but you can do a lot more with them to work with the slide. On a corner at least. If you're sliding in a straight line downshifting to engine break will work better than actual brakes sometimes.
If you go truly off road. AWD you're mostly screwed. 4x4 light to medium duty trucks should be able to get out of almost anything in 4LO with the tires aired down. Can't hurt keeping a small shovel/entrenching tool to dig out any hangups(and a tire inflater). Anything bigger than a half ton pickup is a crapshoot, the weight is a detriment.

Most important of all, it needs A/T tires. So many 4x4 vehicles are sold with highway tires, I don't get it.

    Less road noise.

Most AWD vehicles are so computer controlled that you can't do much with them because of the overrides in their systems.

True 4wd vehicles are pretty rare these days, but road and semi-road tires are sold for 2 main reasons, fuel economy and road noise.

The third would be most people never take their trucks off of the road.

Winter tires are the way to go. A/T tires are going to suck for traction on snow and ice.

Well…. I was in the dells this week went with my sister… left this morning at 3:30 AM to miss the snow that was supposed to start in WI at 5:00 and in CP area at 9:00…… needless to say I missed nothing Wisconsin was clear sailing with wet roads and snow coming down….. once I hit Rockford it was a complete mess. Pulled off at the oasis and waited for the plows to go by and hop behind them……. 3.5hr drive took 7hrs but happy to be home not gonna lie was gonna start looking for hotels in Rockford it was BAD up there by the time I hit 294 IL was putting that tax salt to use and it was pretty clear sailing.

Indiana got nothing compared to what Rockford area got…. But this snow was WET 2 stage snow blower had a heck of a time kept slushing in the chute

Old inherited snow blower crapped out. Had to shovel.
To re-power it or not is the question. Rest of it is in great shape and harbor freight has a Predator that will work.

And before anyone jumps in and says anything about taxes etc…. Taxation is still theft and if we didn’t have taxes I wouldn’t be in the dells I’d own a beach house and none of this would matter. And honestly if there weren’t plows I could also make that work and plan accordingly so no I don’t need big daddy.gub he needs me :yesway:
