    I currently have a frigidaire model fghs2631pf4a.
    Screenshot_20231230_155258_Opera.jpg

It has an ice maker and water dispenser on the left side door (freezer door) and works. It was manufactured in 2015 and for about the past month its been makes a loud noise in the back left top side. Maybe it's the ice maker? Sounds like the compressor.

The unit still works but I figures maybe it's time to do the research for when the unit does die I'm ready to get a new one.

I don't need the ice maker and won't cry if it does not have the water filter feature either. I rarely use the ice or the water. Actually find that I would rather have the space for food in freezer than the ice maker area.

    In any case any recommendations?

I have a upright stand alone freezer (slim design) for extra freezer space.
I do not like the units with the freezer on the bottom.

So looking mainly at another double door or perhaps back to the old fashion freezer on top.

We have GE signature everything, knock on wood all of it’s going strong. Agree with BS, I’ve heard nothing good about Samsung kitchen appliances even tho every tv in our house is Samsung and we love them.

The wife swears our Frigidaire freezer on the bottom was making a weird noise (I couldn't hear it) a few months ago. We weren't a big fan of the fridge (made in 2015), as we had a side by side in our previous house.

Lowe's had the new model of our old side by side, over $500 off. We bought it and listed the still running freezer in the bottom for $400 on Facebook. Turns out I should have listed it for more...it sold in hours, and they came from two hours away.

TL:DR - new fridge for $700, all in. Now, I'm a believer in buying a new fridge before the current one is dying, and you have to have it ASAP and/or lose food.

Our old Frigidaire side by side we bought in 2015 and the only issue we had in 8 years was the ice maker went out. $75 or so for the part and a few minutes to swap it out.

Yes, You buy a new fridge once in a while, and the old one goes out in the garage to keep drinks cool. That way if it croaks out in the garage.. the drink cans may get warm. Big woop.

I will also chime in with NOTHING SAMSUNG, at all.

    Samsung refrigerator=Failed
    Samsung washer=Failed
    Samsung dryer=Failed
    Samsung range/oven=Failed

4 for 4, they told me they were going to buy back our washer (recalled), they quit responding to emails & phone calls.

If it has water running through it, stay away from Samsung.
Frigidaire GALLERY series has always served me will as far as appliances go.

    go with simple things.
the more stuff, the more risk something breaks.

Also, why not find out what's making the noise?
There's a parts place in Highland.
If it's something simple, you can keep it going cheap.

Funny thing about the noise is it just stopped after 3 days of it.

Suspect it's the ice machine but as the year comes to an end and I'm doing some budgeting for the next 2 years I figures I see how much a new unit would be.

$1k (on sale) seems to be the going rate for units the size I have right now.

    Ugh...

We have Frigidaire appliances in our kitchen. All bought 10yrs ago. The magnetron went out of the over the range microwave this past August. Never seen that happen before. Bought the next generation Frigidaire model to replace it. Figured it was an anomaly. As others have said, stay away from Samsung appliances

20 years ago, samsung. Today? RUN AWAY FROM SAMSUNG. Their phones and TVs are nice however.

I would consider LG. Sub zero if that is your thing, Frigidaire would be a heavyweight contender on my list.

What sucks is a refrigerator is one of those things that just quit all of a sudden. And ya kinda need one. It's not like you can say "well, I'll just 3 more months for Best Buy to have their Memorial Day weekend sale to get one." Nope, need it today

We just bought all new kitchen appliances with one of those Black Friday suite deals at Home Depot. Went with LG and couldn’t be happier.

For what it’s worth, Samsung has supposedly fixed the ice maker issues that have plagued their refrigerators in recent years, but it was still too recent for us to risk it.

Our LG has two separate ice makers. One in the door and one in the lower freezer drawer.

We have a Whirlpool SBS we bought when we moved into this house in 2004. 5 or so years ago my wife decided that one was too old and wanted a new one. I learned a long time ago to let her pick the appliances. (Long story).

She picked a Samsung French door type with all the bells and whistles. Unbeknownst to us these had a problem with the ice makers freezing up. We lived with it for years until I finally found a fix for it. Another $250 in it and the freezing up problem is fixed. Other than that it’s run fine.

Oh, and that Whirlpool? It’s still down in the basement…running fine.

Ice cube filter been changed lately? The noise may be something simple.
