I think this may make for an interesting thread.

What would you buy if you could afford to buy any weapon you wanted, but could only own one of the following categories:

    1) .22 rifle
    2) .22 pistol
    3) carbine in 9mm, .40, or .45 cal
    4) pistol any caliber
    5) shotgun
    6) military-style field rifle of any caliber
    7) military-style sniper rifle of any caliber.

I am just curious about which weapons everyone out there considers the cream of the crop.

Good for defensive use, and best choice for changing that stupid ass rule of only getting to own one...

No firearm is worth crap without ammo. You want something that's modular and adaptable to the most common or readily available ammunition. Many firearms offer that ability these days. It just a matter of obtaining what you think you'll need, like additional barrels and magazines.. for that one gun.

One firearm? .44 magnum revolver with a long enough barrel to legally use to hunt. 7-1/2 inch barrel is good for me. Target and recreation using .44 spl loads loaded in a range from powderpuff to firm. Cast bullets are not too expensive, and I have molds if I have to cast them myself. Switch to .44 Mag loads all the way up to 19 grains of AA#9. when you need 1000 ft,lb. of muzzle energy. Simple, reliable, versatile, durable. Most will shoot accurately well past 200 yards. Wear a big enough jacket and it can be carried on your person, especially with a shoulder holster.

I am a pretty big 1911 fan but if you only have one, that would not be my pick for hunting for food, and I am in a habit of eating on a regular basis.

Side benefit of the .44 mag, you will be as cool as Dirty Harry. <grin>

So unlimited budget, but only one category...

.22s while fun to shoot, can serve multiple purposes, and have cheap ammo, I'd have to rule them out due to stopping power.

PCC is interesting, but if I only get one, I don't think I want one for similar reasons to the .22s

Pistol is an interesting choice. Concealable, unlike any of the other options, but can't reach out very far (more due to me than the weapon, but tomatoes, tomatoes)

Shotgun is another very versatile option. Hunting and defense can be covered with this one. I could probably be swayed to pick this, but low round capacity and more complex manual of arms makes this lower on my list

Sniper rifle makes me think long barrel, so this would make home defense harder.

My choice is rifle. If we are going fun rifle, it would be an AUG with a 13.7" barrel and suppressor.

Maybe I’m interpreting things differently than those above me, but it seems like you’re asking for seven different answers, one for each category. If so, for me:

    1) I hate to say it as I have very little actual love for it, but if I could only have ONE .22LR, it would be a 10/22. You can configure them to do anything.

    2) This one is tough and I’m not up to speed on current .22LR pistol offerings. Most autoloading .22s struggle with reliability in my experience, so I’m prone to say a S&W 617 or something, but I know a Ruger MKIV 22/45 would likely serve me well.

    3) Kept to the three calibers mentioned, probably a B&T GHM9 or maybe a modernized MP5. I have very little interest in blowback PCCs honestly, and if money’s no factor, I’m gonna treat myself lol.

    4) Glock 19. Utilitarian, inelegant, but simple, robust, and will do everything I need.

    5) Mossberg 590 in 12GA. I like the 870 a lot, but the 590 seems more easily user serviceable and versatile.

    6) I see nothing wrong with a modern M4.

    7) Accuracy International AXMC all the way.

If you’re going after more of a “one firearm, chosen from one of the following categories,” then I guess my answer would be an AR15 of some kind. You don’t say we have to limit it to one caliber or complete firearm, meaning I could potentially have limitless uppers.

When the Germans were reduced to only having one gun per household they came out with the drilling to have two shotgun barrels and a rifle all wrapped in one. There were other configurations but this is the one most relates to when thinking of drilling.

If I could only have one it would be one to make me capable to take the rest of my weapons back...

.22 rifle - probably a CZ bolt with a heavy barrel. I currently have a Savage BTVS and am not impressed.

.22 pistol - Ruger Single Six

PCC - I really liked the Camp 45 I had and would love to have another.

    Pistol of any caliber - .45acp 1911

    Shotgun - I've always wanted a double .410

Military rifle - either stick with the Mosin or maybe grab a basic AR. Depends on the mission.

Military sniper - an M21 would probably do anything I needed it to do.

If I could only have one of the above, I'd go with the 1911.

    1) A Ruger 10/22, plentiful parts, can be customized to be just about anything you want.
    2) 1911-22. I have one, it is a pleasure to shoot
    3) I like the CZ Scorpion. I have two a carbine and a pistol.
    4) If I could only have one pistol it would be the H&K VP9
    5) A Mossburg 940 though which submodel is up for debate. The JMs are 9+1, the Pro Tactical can accommodate a red dot, but is only 7+1.
    6) I have no real opinion on this one. I have an AR, it would most likely be it.
    7) I have no real opinion on this one either.

As far as if I could only have one, which one would it be, I just not sure. I'm glad I don't have to make a decision like that.

    2.) 1911-22
    3.) Thompson M1 carbine in .45acp
4.) 1911, .45acp. I couldn't live without them. Sure, there are more modern alternatives but I'm good with these
5.) Mossberg 500/590/Mav88. Hate the controls on the 870
6.) AR in 5.56 with normal capacity mags
7.) M1A in .308 with nice scope. Because.

And **** only getting one. I'd move my *** so fast. **** those ****ers.

If money is no object. Lol. I'm going with the 1 from each number.

    1) a belt fed full auto 22lr rifle
    2) probably a ruger mk4 22/45 or maybe an ar pistol in .22?
    3) tommy gun, why not?
    4) I'd take my m&p 9 2.0 optics ready. I love it.
    5) a 940jm would be nice. Maybe a ksg or ar12.
    6) probably a scar. Maybe an m4
    7) a barret m82?

Sure, it may not be a practical list, but I'm not very practical. Lol.
