So in reading some post’s there was mention not wanting to put too much money into an edc. Just wondering others thoughts were on how much you’re willing to spend on your edc. ? Thinking that in the overall scheme of things things cost really would not be a deciding factor? Especially if you amortize the cost over years of service?

Is there an average amount spent is there a cut off when it comes to amount ?

It's somewhat a matter of having that gun possibly sitting in an evidence locker if it was pressed into service at some point. I have multiples of anything I'm carrying.

Each person will be different. To some, a $450 G**** is really expensive and they would rather carry a Taurus. To others a $1,500 gun gives them the extra edge, real or perceived, that will help them defend their life or the life of a loved one. And if the $1,500 gun goes away for 5 years, that's fine with them.

As above mentioned, it all comes down to what you're willing to have the police take from you for a long time should you have to use it.

For me that's around $900 for the pistol, red dot, and light.

I'd LOVE to carry my Staccato. But I'd really not like to have that taken into evidence should I have to use it.

If I ever have a way to afford a second, I'll be carrying it. As also mentioned above.

Random question: Why do you censor “Glock?”

Anyway, it depends for me. Under a grand would be ideal, but with optics cuts and custom stippling these days crossing into $1200 or more wouldn’t be unheard of, really. I’d rather carry a nicer gun that I’m confident and proficient in using over a cheaper option I don’t know quite as well, and sometimes a nicer, more expensive gun is more fun to shoot, ergo you shoot it more and are more proficient with it. It’s not always “black and white” for some folks.

I had forgotten about this but several years ago, churchmouse was sent a black T-shirt with the official G**** logo but in place of the LOCK, there was * * * *. Another mod actually did the artwork and I had the shirt made and sent to him. He was very pleased.

I used to fall for the trap of what if it is taken from me because I used it. Well, at least I had the best tool available to me on me. A safe gun is not for me. I carry them. I have them for protection of me and mine. Not for me and mine to protect. $600, if it is 9mm because that level works. What ever I have is what I carry. I had a $3,500 1911, carried it every day because it was the best running pistol I had and I could put the rounds into the middle of the target from the hip with it. I do believe that once you find a gun that runs great for you, you should work on procuring a duplicate and not keep it in your house, car, etc. It should be where you can get it if your primary is compromised.

I'd like to answer that not of my preference but rather from an observation of seeing hundreds of customers come through a small town gun shop.

Of course ive seen people carry everything from $150 hi point to $2000 1911s.... But in general the amount is between $275 to $700

Its rare I see anything truly expensive being carried, and its rare I see anything cheaper than a Taurus G2C being carried.

It's just like buying a car; You can spend a ton of money and get a great little set up, or you can economize. Do you need to drive a lambo to work everyday? Probably not. Is it cool if you do? Sure, if you're in to that sort of thing. Is it fine to drive a honda civic? Absolutely. I do, and so do countless other people. Whatever floats your boat

My main goal is reliability and what I call self-defense accuracy. That is it never fails to go bang no failures and can shoot at least a 4" group at 25yds.
I will not have a gun that is unreliable. It will see a gunsmith and if it's still junk it goes bye-bye.

Pistols I've found that will do that job.

Out of respect for our late friend, Churchmouse, who had a hated-him relationship with the brand. Not meant as an insult to the brand.

He was more than happy to let anyone "run them, if it works for you".
I swear I may be related somehow to him because of my 1911 love and my loathing of G****

As for thw question posted, $3-600 typically as long as they run well. I won't carry my $200 Rossi because of it emotional meaning to me.

It all comes down to disposable income. A G2C will do if thats all you can afford. There is some benefits to a higher quality pistol but there is also a point of diminishing returns. I thinks being proficient with what you have is the goal and if you need to use it and the police take it for awhile it served its purpose. On the other hand if your not proficient with it. It won't matter, you will be dead or hospitalized. Carry the best you can afford without starving your family.

My personal # is in the neighborhood of $500,
As has been stated, it would depend on: 1) What your Budget allows & 2) With what you feel Proficient.

Cost is irrelevant. Reliability and shootability is the only thing that matters. My life and the lives of my loved ones are worth more than any handgun.

One of the stupidest things posted over and over again in gun forums is this concern about an “expensive” gun sitting in a police property room. Really? So that’s what your life is worth? The price of a Taurus?

There is no handgun that costs too much if it saves your life when called upon in a lethal force encounter.

It is an individual choice. We all have different incomes and different obligations. It is highly unlikely that any of us will have to use a gun in a life-or-death situation. But if it does happen, you need a gun that will do the job.
If a certain gun is functions reliably and fits, why buy one that has the same reliability and fit, but costs hundreds of dollars more? Any gun at any time can malfunction.
If you have the money to spend and you really like the gun, for whatever reason - brand, appearance, included extras, clerk's beautiful blue eyes, etc., buy it.

I am not very concerned about the gun being in an evidence locker. Better that than me being on a slab.
