Best time to put down weed 'n feed is in the fall, when the movement in the weeds is downward. I do crabgrass preventer/fertilizer in the spring, then weed 'n feed in the fall.

Yep, pretty much agrees with what I was thinking, although I don't do nearly as much stuff as they recommend. :):

I did that stuff for years for the people that cared to pay for it. :)
I could stand to aerate, but it's hard to find the pull-behind "barrel" aerators that you fill with water. Last time I did it, I supposedly rented one of those, but when I went to pick it up, all they had was a walk-behind model, which was much more expensive. Since it was their mix-up, they rented it to me for the same price as the pull-behind, but I'd just as soon not have to use a walk-behind again.

We ran a bluebird walk behind once. I'd rather poke the holes by hand with a piece of pipe and a mallet than use one of those again. You couldn't turn it. Basically have to lift it and turn it and sit it back down. And of course it weighs about 450lb so it can pull plugs in clay soil.... :faint:

I don't remember the brand I rented from Sunbelt, but it was basically like running a rear tine roto-tiller. It was heavy, but not 450 lbs.. It worked great, but it was a lot of walking for my yard.
