They're demanding a doubling of hourly wages? Um, yeah, good luck with that. That's insane.

I'm sure there are some diamonds in the rough, but a lot of the Kroger employees I have been exposed to in recent years don't have any clue to the mentality of customer service. :twocents:

I like the ones at the store I go to. Most are older ladies. I use the self checkout lanes 99% of the time and they're the ones manning those.

I will not use self check out lanes. One of the Kroger / Payless stores is generally pretty good. The other one, which is newer, larger and Very well stocked seems to never have enough cashiers. I am not going to stand in line 10 or 12 deep when only one of 10 registers is staffed. The self check area is 12 - 20 deep also. Seems like some manager would notice.

I do spend a lot more time in the little Fresh Thyme grocery store, and the local butcher shop. They seem happy to wait on me. Since the big chains have raised the prices so much, the small butcher shops prices are not really higher when you compare quality. They don't even sell the cheap mystery meat in-a-tube type products.

You know, there's a Fresh Thyme not far from me. I've never been there. I need to check them out.
The large chains just don't seem to give a damn anymore.

I like the self checkout because I'm often faster than the cashiers. :): It's minorly irritating when I'm buying something for which my ID has to be checked, but I still prefer it. I need to look at Fresh Thyme more often. I've been there a couple of times when they had something on sale that I wanted for a good price.

I always just leave the stuff that needs ID on the bottom of my cart.......figure that is my pay for being my own cashier, lol.

I am kidding.........but the thought has crossed my mind.

Well, it's kind of hard to disguise two cases of beer and a 1.75 liter of Jagermeister... :):

Well, I certainly hope both sides understand if they pisss off their customers, it will be bad for both of them.

I wonder how much they care about that down here? They've gotten to where long lines to checkout are just the norm. Like the hearing the "baby crying," they have grown numb to seeing it.

I have a newer Aldi's on my side of Btown. I need to train myself on how to shop their stores. Fresh Thyme is on this side of town also, but it's really hard to match Kroger's pricing.

Aldi and Kroger are my two go-to stores. Aldi for staples (eggs, milk, butter, spices, etc.), Kroger for other stuff.

Good to know! I load up on long shelf life dairy items as they go on sale. I don't do milk, but use a fair amount of heavy cream in food preparation. Also try to keep many dozen eggs on hand.

I really don't shop like most people. I go in and stock up, as sale pricing happens or the like. Depending on sales and finances, I can go for weeks at a time without a grocery visit. I am in the habit of watching the Kroger weekly add as it comes in the mail.

I go weekly because of storage limitations. I will say that Kroger's milk seems to have longer expiration dates, but unless it's on sale, I still get it at Aldi. I go through enough that it's not going to go bad on me. Aldi is also good for paper goods - paper plates, paper towels, TP, trash bags, storage bags, etc..

I'll tell you one thing, Meijer's pissed me off for the last time. I don't shop there anymore. I go to Kroger's now. Aldi is another one I need to check out. I went there once or twice and just thought it was too weird. lol I should try them again.
