My only complaint with SD Bullion is that they won't allow an e-check payment from my credit union (it's not on their "list"). I've contacted them to see how to get it added. I'm mailing them a paper check. Seems like all I would need to provide would be a routing number and account number. That's all that Provident needed. :dunno:

Hmm that’s odd ! Wonder why they don’t accept it? My echecks work just fine but I use a regular bank.

I'm with Financial Center Federal and they have Navy Federal listed, but not FCFCU. But they use something called "Plaid" as a third party expediter of ACH transfers so maybe it's Plaid that would need to add it. With Provident, as I said, they just needed my routing number and account number.

I don't know how big these companies are, but I guess you could cut them some slack. As frustrating as it is for us, they're likely stuck with payment systems that aren't ideal because of the fees and overhead involved. Just have to find one that works for you.

Yeah, if they're using a payment service like Plaid, certainly. Provident however appears to handle that (at least the e-check portion) in-house, just like any other company to which you make payments with online banking (think cable, utilities, mortgage companies, credit card companies, etc.).

    Heard back from SDBullion.

Thank you for contacting the sales department of SD Bullion.

I do apologize about this! While using e-check on the website, you may have trouble finding your bank if it's not supported by Plaid. If so, you can select one of the other payment methods available to you. We offer a variety of other options that still qualify for the cash discount, including bank wires, personal checks, cashier's checks, and money orders.

Unfortunately, we cannot process manual e-checks with routing and account numbers before order history has been established.

I replied back to them to confirm that I'll be able to manually enter my e-check info after my current order processes and establishes an order history. We'll see what they say.

And here's their reply. Not really much of a definitive answer but I'm hopeful.

Thank you for contacting the sales department of SD Bullion.

Once you have more history with us we can see if your account is eligible. Plaid is always updating and your bank or credit union can be added in the future.

In plaid, try entering "fcfcu". That's how I found it. I've set up my brokerage accounts using it and that worked.

Ok, it worked for Schwab and Fidelity both using plaid. I didn't capitalize, and only typed in fcf and it was tops in the recommendations, so I don't know.

ETA They also don't show up as Financial Center, it says Finance Center...
I've tried all those permutations with no luck. I have a thought though. I'm thinking that each company that uses Plaid supplies Plaid with the info that customers have provided to that company, as opposed to Plaid managing all the info for all companies. In other words, in your case, Schwab and Fidelity recognized and had info for FCFCU and provided that to Plaid for Schwab and Fidelity.
I mean, you'd think that Plaid would maintain that info across the board to make it available for all the companies they service, but obviously they don't. That's the only explanation I can think of.

Could be. I have used plaid on several other apps/websites, but haven't looked for FCFCU since my main bank is Teachers credit union. They have been on every plaid application that I've used. Could be that the user has a list that they provide.

That makes sense, and now that I think about it, it would explain why SD Bullion said that once I had established an order history with them, my banking info could be added to Plaid.

    Coin shop was packed today!
I still haven't been to a shop since I started buying silver (never had a reason to). There's one out in Greenfield that Tyler the Piker recommended, and there's also a gold and silver place near me. I've gone there before because they do jewelry repair, but I've never checked them out for gold or silver.

They're hit or miss. Even down to the specific person you deal with in a larger store with lots of employees. I don't buy a lot of coins, but I do get a few just to look at. Like I bought silver pesos at The Coin Shop in Bloomington just because they were inexpensive and unique.

The one I went to today had 10oz bars at $277 cash out the door. Sure, the online retailers are slightly below that and have free shipping, but cash and carry sometimes beats having to deal with shipping and payment hassles.

I drive to one in North Vernon sometimes just because I like the guy. And he does have some bargains now & then. Had several bank bags of Franklin halves for $10.50 back when all the major retailers were asking $15 for instance.
