Odd way to ask for pizza recommendations but ok...

As a recent ex-Chicagoan and employee of Aurelio’s in Schererville, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality and selection at Pizza Junkiez on Stop 11 and Shelby. Any pizza place that has a “food porn” page on their website is pretty confident in their goods. We haven’t had a bad pie from there yet, and we’ve gotten quite a few, most of which were quite good (the Cartman, the Ricky Bobby, the Soprano, among others).

We used to enjoy eating at “South of Chicago” in Fountain Square when we would visit Indy a few years ago, but that location has since closed. There is another location in Greenwood although it’s a bit of a hike from here, so we haven’t eaten there yet.

If you’re interested in a unique change of pace, there’s “Chicago Pizza with a Twist” at County Line and Emerson. I think it’s a Sikh/Punjabi spin on pizza, with Indian spices and ingredients. The butter chicken version is one we’ve gotten numerous times and we’ve enjoyed it quite a bit. You’ve got to be willing to step outside the box, so to speak, but if you like a wide variety of ethnic foods (fortunately my wife and I do) then CPWAT is worth a try.

Most others we’ve tried have been mediocre to acceptably good but none yet that have been altogether bad. Bob’s Tu Your Door came highly recommended but didn’t live up to it. Chicago’s and Brozini’s were likewise decent but not particularly memorable. “The Sink” pizza at Gallagher’s on Thompson & Mcfarland works pretty well with the overwhelming amount of ingredients, but their basic pie is pretty bland. (What is it with the finely ground beef buried under everything else on pizzas down here? Bad!)

So yeah, a not-too-diverse area like IN /Indy doesn’t have the quality pizza selection of Chicago or NY. Oooh, big surprise. But I think there are still good options if you do a little experimenting. I hear there is an Aurelio’s now in Fishers (?) which, if it’s the same standard as the original, might be worth a visit too.

I didn't even realize they were there. They do look good on their menu!

“The ordinary “ scampi’s pizza” ”brazinies” (sp) “ale emporium” “union jacks” .

I think pizza is one item we don’t have to worry about being a lack of good places just need to look a little further than the chain places.
Brozinni's at least at their countyline location has been closed for quite awhile for "remodeling" yet there doesn't appear to be any forward motion on their project. Love their product but the doors have to be open.

Where is Paesello’s located ? Haven’t heard of it before. Always looking for something new in the area that isn’t Mexican
It is on US33. If you are coming from Elkhart, you come to that split before the Martin's grocery. It is in that split area right behind the liquor store before the dollar store. It is mostly a carry out place.

I can't believe they are turning Dandino's into yet another mexican place. How many do we need?

I've had region pizza (bronkos) and couldn't disagree more. I'd choose Domino's 10/10 times over that garbage.
If it's the place I'm thinking of in Crown point, they either went way down hill or you sir have no taste. I'm not saying they were the best but decent and better than Domino's.

Let's make a list of the best pizza places around Indy.....and I'll start.

    1. ??
    Magoo's pizza. ****ing amazing.
One on west 38th and on on Rockville road.
Muslim owned and operated, so no pork.

The meat lovers pizza is my favorite. They also have a kabob pizza that is awesome.

Thanks. We are probably 25 miles south of that so not our best option for carry out.

Just talked about Dandino’s yesterday. My wife’s cousin from Denver area was here for a reunion. Her & hubby, my BIL & SIL, wife and I met for lunch. First went to Olympia, had to sit outside as no booth for 6. Was too cold & breezy so went to South Side Soda Shop. During our 3 hour lunch available eateries in Goshen was discussed. Almost no “normal, American style” sit down places left. When Kerm bought, remodeled, & reopened Dandino’s was hoping it would last but didn’t. Even Ponderosa is now a Mexican restaurant. People tell me the Oasis is pretty good since remodel but I won’t darken the door as refuse to put 1 penny into the one owner’s pocket. Since moving to Kos. Co. and selling our Goshen & Elk.Co properties we mainly eat in Leesburg, Syracuse, Warsaw. But every where is short staff and BUSY. Last Friday went to 4 places at 5:30-6:00 and all had 1 - 1.5 hour waits to get in...came back home. Week before group of 7 of us waited over an hour after ordering for our food. Resorting to lunches or evening meal only mid-week, no weekends.

Is the question how many more do we need or going to get? I suspect in Goshen, there will never be enough.

If I have my druthers will stick with the ole standby Volcano; but then Taco Bell is also favored here for Mexican.

Speaking about question of agreement, when and where was the quorum formed on what a "Good Pizza In Indiana" is/was ?

Last I knew, Bronkos in Crown Point had closed. Langels is Highland is good, House of Pizza in Hammond, a small place with a sports bar called AJ's off Rt 49 in Chesterton.
I agree the chains are not that impressive. Pizza Yuck(Hut), is about the worst. Plastic cheese and flat sauce.
Aurelios is decent, they offer pasta too. I've hit a couple of Beggars that weren't total loss.
I'm always looking for small private places because they actually make real crust!
    Good luck.

Maybe Covid related??? Ha ha far to north for me

I am not from the south side so the food truck was my in to them anyway. I did not look at the food trucks out of late but I wonder if they are still running the truck. The pizza garlic knots and root beer was a great combo.
Last trip to the food trucks found me at “Bacon Station” and I went no further down the line. I think many at INGO would understand.

Monical’s has good pizza. They have one in Kentland, but most in IL. Also probably the best gluten free pizza!
