I see July the 4th as Independence day that encompasses all citizens and the freedoms that all enjoy under the declarations of the US Constitution. I see no reason for a national holiday that is only for 13.4 % of the nation. While I have no problem with any group wanting to celebrate anything that is important only to them, I believe this national holiday is not helpful to our union.
Christmas and Easter in for an ever decreasing minority. And labor day?

I personally think it's worth celebrating an event that corrected a great plague that darkened our nation for decades.

New Year's day is a holiday, and just absolutely nothing, so...

Basically, majority government workers are white
As a government employee (who is not going to apologize for having the day off - sorry, not sorry), I'd say that the population of government employees is at least as diverse as the general population, or if anything, blacks and other minorities are probably represented at greater than the percentage of the general population. As are people with disabilities. Now I realize I only have a sampling of some 5,000 employees (just at my facility) to go by, but I'll stand by my assertion.

Ya I get that, but that still leaves majority being white. And if we go at a 1:1 ratio of keeping it as diverse as the US population, that’s still only 13% black employees. I’m figuring in ALL government that will get the day off, also. Every janitor, every postal worker, every tax collector (damn them). Being generous we’ll say 35% black. Still majority whites benefiting from the holiday.

Not really a big deal, just pointing out I thought it was funny. The “woke” white people always seem to benefit more than the groups they’re outraged on the behalf of.

New Years is only nothing when you don’t remember it! I enjoy taking a day to plan the next year and set goals.

I also don’t mind the Juneteenth holiday, per say. I do find parts of it ironic (explained above) and I do think it’s just a way for leftist to attempt driving a wedge between us... but the actual real intentions of the holiday is a great thing that we should celebrate in some way.

I, for one, will leave my Dr. Dre cd in the truck the rest of the month.

I'm about as far from "woke" as you can get. You're welcome to become a government employee... https://www.usajobs.gov/

Only took me a year and probably 8 resume's submitted (tweaked several times, all for the same position) to get hired. Then you too can get the day off, or if you're really upset about it, you can work that day. You won't make any extra pay, but hey, at least you're not enjoying the day off. ;) Oh! And we get that sweet sweet 0.5% COL increase most years. Not all, but most.

Well don't let em drive a wedge - Grill a steak today, and be thankful slavery ended.

    Done and done.

Or, you can take this day and assess how you're doing on the plans from January.

You’ll get the typical “at the time America gained its independence there were slaves” reply im sure... but I agree with you 100%.
So to that I say "That was then, this is now." Women couldnt vote either, and like them, we changed the laws to stop disenfranchising the slaves as well.

You cant move forward if you spend all your time looking behind you.

It was pretty universally celebrated when I was in Texas. Some speeches, some picnics, some newspaper articles, but they did not shut down the whole state. That was the day that the news made it to Texas and a declaration was made for the end of slavery.

Here is an interesting part of the speech:

Taken from the above, statement made by General Granger upon announcing the end of slavery:

"The people of Texas are informed that, in accordance with a proclamation from the Executive of the United States, all slaves are free. This involves an absolute equality of personal rights and rights of property between former masters and slaves, and the connection heretofore existing between them becomes that between employer and hired labor. The freedmen are advised to remain quietly at their present homes and work for wages. They are informed that they will not be allowed to collect military posts and that they will not be supported in idleness either there or elsewhere."
General Granger gets canceled. Over/under: 3 days.

I’m not saying all government workers are “woke”. I’m just saying the woke ones are the majority of the beneficiaries of whatever they’re advocating for.

I wonder what the ration of liberal vs Republican gov workers are. When you figure in police firemen etc probably pretty even.

Speaking only for where I work, it's probably skewed conservative (there are a lot of veterans there), but there are definitely some liberals there! I used to hear some of the conversations of some guys that were major flaming liberals about Trump. I about bit a hole in my lip staying quiet. :):

Then there was the lady that was "offended and threatened" by my screen saver, which was nothing but a few pics of some of my guns. I got a "talking to" over that one, but fortunately my boss's boss knew I wasn't some crazed wacko. I did however change my screen saver to pics of unicorns, rainbows, My Little Pony and kittens... I think she got the message. :lmfao:

I been .gov since it was just gov. As far as civil service goes I think you could split them into two camps: the ones in DC; all others.

That's a bit off, the State Department pukes are a bunch of libs no matter where they are.

It seems, like you and Kelly have both experienced... the local government, depending on which branch and the location, is probably about even to a slight tilt either direction. That brings up even more questions as to why some of the bs happening does, but I won’t derail the thread for that. I will say federal overreach is becoming a major issue in the country.

My email ends in .mil... You know, the ones with the most and coolest weapons in the world? Why she thought she would be sheltered from that is a mystery to me!

That makes it even worse! An ugly chick that doesn’t like the sight of guns...

The only suggestion on her dating app would be David Hogg... and I’m not sure he’s even into women.
Allow me to elaborate even more... She just retired last year (so you can guess her age). And she had children, which means... *shudder* ... I can't even bring myself to say it.

To be fair, this lady was a very knowledgeable programmer, especially in one part of the system, and as a tester, I had to work with her. I was always respectful and friendly, and for the most part, she was too, and she never disappointed me in her efforts to fix things, or explain things, etc..

Edit: When the "incident" happened, I was a programmer too, and my cube was right across the aisle from hers, which is how she saw my screensaver in the first place. And I was also kind of known as the "gun guy", so other folks would stop by my desk and talk shop sometimes. That didn't help. :):
