Are you saying that it's up to everyone to protect themselves and that no one has a personal responsibility to not engage in behaviors that would tend to infect someone?
Yes, I will say it is up to everyone to protect themselves. No one is required to protect others, not even the police are required to protect others.

And then you changed it up away from protection and got into behaviors that put others at risk. There is a difference there.

So your first sentence starts with the right idea that everyone needs to protect themselves and ends with a different concept of endangerment. The rest expands on endangerment, so kind of moving the goal posts.

I can easily protect myself while not endangering others.
I suppose I could also protect myself while endangering others as well but really that could only happen after I failed to protect myself. Otherwise I would not be a threat at all.

(I hope it is obvious enough that I am talking about COVID here and not ebola or drunk driving or running with scissors or anything else.)

Yes, screw the fraudulent, teeth-talking nonsense at Stanford as Stanford has disavowed the fraudulent garbage.

Look, I know people don't like being told what to do. I understand, but you are doing it for others, not because you are "scared" or are a "sheople" or any of that other nonsense.

You carry a gun for the protection of yourself and others. Why not look at the mask as a pistol, an inconvenient protection device?

    1. Wash your hands.
    2. Stop licking doorknobs even though it is your rrryyyeeettt.
    3. Exercise, eat well, take your vitamins, what have you.
    4. Wear a mask for others.

And, above all, stop listening to brain-worm infected nonsense about how "masks don't work" or "masks kill you" or whatever Alex Jone inspired tripe that is going around the center right Internet.
There is zero evidence that mask-wearing by non-symptomatic people has any impact whatsoever on the transmission of Covid.

"Do it for others" is nothing more than appeal to emotion.

West Nile? Seriously? We all know that's spread through mosquitos

There's not a beach large enough for the heads that want to hide...

Now, tell me more about this lunch thing... I'm thinking tacos... or, maybe the local Irish pub for a pint. :40oz:

Come'on, man. I love zombie movies, but if you think that somehow was a premeditated primer for wearing masks.... :tinfoil:

I also love James Bond movies, but no one's going to trick me into believing SPECTRE is launching spaceships from volcanoes.

People have been watching (fake) reality shows for years, too. But the sheep aren't just going to elect some charismatic billionaire president... oh, wait...

And since it's Friday, this is one of the better dark humor zombie movies:

I don't like being told what to do by people who don't know what to do but are to self important to admit they don't know.

My local gas station still has the "masks required" sign up, but the cashier isn't wearing one and neither are more most of us customers. Not going into any deeper specifics because some Karen would probably report them. ;)

Perhaps this has been brought up; if so, I've missed it. But it strikes me that if the mask mandates were about anything other than theater, there would be standards. As it stands, it's perfectly acceptable to hang a piece of sheer fabric from Michael's off your ears and go anywhere you like.

In a pandemic that was truly dangerous, the government would be moving Heaven and Earth to insure that citizens had sufficiently-rated PPE. There'd be National Guardsmen in MOPP gear passing out food at Wal-Mart, and the cashiers -- usually either elderly or teenagers -- would be at home. As much of a pain as the restrictions have been, something like pnuemonic or bubonic plague would have gone through this country like a buzzsaw in this environment.

Right. Up north the "mask required" signs are for the tourists, it makes them feel better about themselves.
Besides tourists are the biggest threat to those small towns so if the masks do anything, that is where they belong.

Well, it's a matter of "don't perfect be the enemy of good."
Sometimes a piece of sheer fabric is the best you can expect.

It's perfectly possible for a pandemic to be bad enough to require a modicum of protection, yet not severe enough to roll out the NG. Now maybe if the fatally rate was above 10% that course of action would be necessary, but it's not, so it's not.

PS - I did get my 40 oz's of beer at lunch (and the open face lamb sammich covered in gravy was very tasty) so I'm much more mellower... and sleepy.

There it is. We are all “anti-science”. Never mind that we SEE the same results in our daily lives that this “garbage” points out. We are all just selfish, horrible people that do unspeakable things. That is what Kirk is saying. Repeatedly. Makes the apology earlier pretty ****ing hollow.
I'm pretty sure Kirk wants YOU to mask up because it makes HIM feel safe, not because he's all that worried about your health or liberty

"I think only actual real ass scientists should get to say that someone is not following the science."

If you're a real ass scientist, okay then. You get to say it.

BTW, I just KNEW that someone would comment on the climate science aspect even though it was only an example that illustrated the point. And I was 87% sure it would be you. :stickpoke:
Sweet, but did you call the timing? If you were just saying eventually I would say climate 'science' is a contradiction in terms then you could have gone with 100%

I mean, it's the best I can do pre-coffee. Besides, it Friday.

The other ones mentioned were no where near as bad as COVID-19, so why would drastic measures be warranted?
How can it be 10:38 and you've had no coffee? Do you start work at 10:37? When I was flying to Philly each week to start work for my customer at the time, I was up by 3:30 out the door by 4 to catch a 5:50 flight and I would brew 2 10oz cups, one to drink immediately and one for a travel mug for the drive to the airport

Caffeine is not for amateurs or dilettantes :p
