My biggest problem is that my pallet has evolved a lot over the last 10 years.
I would still say that Eagle Rare, Angels Envy, and Four Roses Single Barrel are my favorite recommendations for the novice bourbon drinker, but I have come to appreciate some of the more complex options out there that I would have dismissed as too harsh or hot a few years ago.

Fistful of Bourbon out of New Jersey is probably my current “best value” bourbon at about $25 at my local Meijer. Smooth enough to call an easy drinker, but with a lot of subtle notes that change as you move it around the tongue. Sweet and spicy with a flash of heat that quickly fades to a pleasantly warm finish

Had several pours of Elijah Craig 18 year Friday night.... now im on the hunt for it. If anyone knows where to find one Im pretty sure id pay over msrp for it to a point....
I got a bottle last year and paid MSRP.

Only bourbon I've paid over $100 for that I think was worth every penny.

Consolation prize once I realized my Elijah Craig search was gonna be a no-go Monday.
The Russell's made it under the $50 mark, but unfortunately, the Wild Turkey did not.
Excited to see how the Kentucky Spirit stacks up against the Russell's Single Barrel and the Rare Breed.
The search for Elijah Craig Barrel Proof and/or 18 Year continues. 20210309_052542.jpg

    Were you in Ohio?

They got that stuff like Costco has bottled water.
No, in Florida... it is allocated, but you only have to sign up for their customer loyalty program and ask for it at the counter - it's not on any shelves. Clerk tipped me each store only gets a couple bottles each week and they come in on Tuesday mornings.

I was blessed by the bourbon gods today at meijer in Greenwood. Was poking around the bourbon when the guy stocking shelves asked what I was looking for. When I told him I was just seeing if anything caught my eye he said “I have eagle rare and blantons in the back”. That was a no brainer.

    Nice timing jfed85!

I was just in the Meijer in Carmel and snagged the same thing + a Sazerac Rye. All at MSRP. $33.99 (Sazerac), $34.99 (Eagle Rare) & $59.99 (Blanton's - with a cap that I didn't already have!).

Sorry guys but only one bottle of each hit the shelves & the Eagle Rare went straight from her hand into my hand. :) Feel free to stop over for a pour sometime though.

20210311_191432.jpg Got this one in the mail through Flaviar membership Ive got. Its good just not something I would buy again over 30 dollar Buffalo Trace or Elijah Craig. I like trying the new stuff out there tho.

On the way to lunch made an impulse stop at the local corner store. Eagle Rare Single Barrel, came “handcuffed” (learned another new word) so I selected the Elijah Craig.

Found a new happy store on my way home today.
Unfortunately, they didn't have anything on my wishlist and decided to target something new (to me).
This one caught my eye and I decided to rescue a bottle.
No idea how it'll drink but looking forward to finding out.
    Cheers! 20210312_154722.jpg

    ............$40

EDIT: Save your money, turd in a bottle.
Heavy ethanol nose and all the way through finish.
Should work fine for burning ant hills.

Picked these up yesterday. All except the Elijah Craig BP were comfortably under the $50 mark. All are solid for their respective price. It was my first time trying the Russel's Reserve 10 year old and it is pretty good.

I can’t get myself to like Bulleitt. I’ve tried the regular and some of the specialty stuff, and it’s a no-go on both. Just too rough for the proof in my mind.

Picked this up today at the Meijer in Noblesville. Priced right at $43.99. I think I will be sampling this tonight.

In an effort to right a terrible wrong (see post #2575), I went back to my always faithful brands from the Wild Turkey and Heaven Hill distilleries.
My track record with finding a hidden gem is right on par with my success with finding allocated releases. 20210313_154814.jpg
