    1) Driving is a privilege not a right. To be allowed to drive you must prove you understand the laws by passing the test.
    2) Laws were passed specifying that one must stop at red lights and stop signs.

This mandate has nothing in common with traffic laws.

I am amazed at the amount of energy is going into the mask/no mask discussion; as the USA falls apart. I get it. I hate being told to do something, especially when common sense says otherwise. My wife and I had the virus, tested positive and went through the ordeal; not nice at all. Still, I do not like being told to wear a mask because I still do not believe it is the only solution we have now, especially when the death rate is so low.

That said, let me ask you something. What if the mandate was taken away tomorrow? How would that change anything? I view the mandate as something simple, something to distract people from another problem, a much bigger problem. The mask symbolizes fear. Many, if not most, who wear a mask believe it protects them. They have placed their faith in an ideology created by politicians and delivered by so called government experts in the field of disease and such. If they can convince people to wear a mask, people will focus on their self interests of being safe; and the government will tell them what they need to do to keep them and their family safe. The government even says that anyone who does not wear a mask should be fined, go to jail....and you can help by reporting them to the higher ups. Further dividing the people; the government supporters versus the independent thinker (we have seen it work all through history).

See where I am going? It's not the mask. It's not the bogus data we are being fed. It's not the virus. It is a matter of power and control. The mask is a cover, a distraction of something way bigger...and we all know it (most of us do).

The USA is dying and everyone is worried about a scratch on the head. We need to stop and refocus out efforts to the real problems we are facing; and the mask is not it.
If the mandate went away tomorrow, the problem will still be here. We need to fight not the mandate, but those who are instilling fear through the mandate.

I will wear a mask. Not because I agree with the mandate or am afraid to fight the mandate, but rather because if we are to eliminate this kind power grab at the people's expense, we need to focus on the root problem. A mask is not the root problem.

I'm no longer using stoplights. It's the government's way of trying to tell me what I can do with my own car and I'm not going to be controlled. You are sheep if you use stoplights. Other people aren't my responsibility, they should look out and make sure I'm not coming.
That would be an apt comparison if you were breathing the kings air, you drive on the State’s roads, and their roads, their rules.

I also believe that if a mask order was debated in good faith by elected officials and properly passed their would be less saber rattling and vitriol over it.

but isn’t this mandate a bit toothless now? No fines, no jail time? So comply or don’t and be free to mKe choices, and chances are a good amount of us on this board have had it and won’t know unless we get tested for antibodies.

Alright. I kinda don't care a lot for Dana Loesch. She's kind of a partisan ideologue. But that's funny right there.

If unicorns dust can save a life...

Not that masks are unicorn dust. Point is, we don't know if the masks that people are actually wearing save lives, but because they're wearing them, they check the box that gets Karen off their backs. It seems self evident that some masks would tend to reduce the risk of spreading covid, but I don't think it's sure enough for anyone to bunch their panties about too tightly. If we're gonna stop going ape****, let's apply that to both sides. You want people to wear masks. Convince them that they're as useful as you think they are. Make the case.

    Newsflash.
I am against seat belt laws also.
The seat belt works the same, with or without a law.
You can choose to wear it.
I wore them before it was law.

"If the mask can save a life"?
Skip over all the argument about that?
    And, the argument is irrelevant.
Wear one, or don't wear one.

I too think seatbelts and motorcycle helmets should be optional.

But I also think insurance companies should have the right to say "Screw you. You chose not to wear a rational piece of safety gear, so we're not covering your related bills that the belt/helmet would have prevented. " and if you choose to not use those reasonable safety precautions You're on the hook personally for the bills.

And families should not be able to sue for damages. "Yes Cletus was killed by that drunk driver. But he wasnt wearing his belt, and based on similar accidents, we would have expected him to live had he been wearing his belt. No payday for you."

You do realize that opens up a serious bag of :poop: when you let an insurance company makes those kind of calls.
I tend to agree on the optional thing. I choose to where my belt having driven some idiotically fast street cars and competed in some seriously faster race cars.
I like being held in place.

As to the helmet thing. I hate-em on a bike. Especially a Harley go figure. But wore them in states that mandated them.
Riding my Jap street fighters I usually either had one with me or wore it.

I dunno. I hear they already make calls for similarly questionable decisions:
Hi. I would like to file a claim for a stolen car.
Im sorry to hear that. Tell me about what happened.
I started my car to warm it up and defrost the windows. I went inside for 15 minutes and when I came back out, it was gone. Somebody apparently saw it running unattended and drove away in it.
Sorry. That's pure negligence on your part. We will not cover that loss. What else can I do for you today?

And then when the insurance company says that they won't give you health insurance if you eat more than the mandated 3.2576874 grams of sugar per day? Or if you keep a firearm in your home, since after all if you don't keep one your odds of a negligent discharge go to 0? Letting lawyers and the risk averse run society causes problems because risk aversion tends to run into the "padded room" style of management without considering whether a risk is actually reasonable, or if the return on that risk is worth the potential fallout.

Reddit has now banned the mask skeptic subreddit.

You're a damn fool if you actually believe masks work, in light of the insane and overbearing measures being taken to silence ANY form of criticism or noncompliance whatsoever. This isn't how power behaves when something is self-evident, it's how power behaves when their narratives are vulnerable to logic.

Allow me to present an alternative narrative: The is how you behave when there's a small, but vocal minority that bristles against any inconvenience, especially when it's accompanied by trained, expert advice and government recommendations.

And Reddit is a cesspool of stupidity. Only go there for IdiotsInCars and such. Even then, the comments are asinine.

I've long wondered why masks haven't been recommended during flu season. As a Paramedic, we've long put masks on patients who were infectious and coughing up a lung... it's just part of standard infection control. But, there is so much "science" zipping back and forth and so much politics that no one can keep things straight, which makes for a skeptical people, which makes for a rebellious/untrusting people. The whole thing is a debacle and people are rightly confused and frustrated.
