I could never put anyone on my ignore list....It's almost a form of self censorship...Like I am too fragile to see a fellow Hoosier and gun owner's thoughts....Whenever mrjarrell would post something I agreed with I would send him rep with a lengthy explanation of why....I figured he couldn't ingonore rep...

Ingonore.....I like that word better than that "ignore".....

    Yeah...Ingonore....Nice...

It's more of a "reminder" tool to me. I'd prefer if we could add "notes" to users, like tags or something that would show up somewhere. I just want to remember which people aren't worth arguing with, for whatever reason.

How did you and Jarrell get along? I don't recall.

It's interesting the spin and motives that are often ascribed to use of tools like the IGNORE list on INGO.

To me, it's simple. I choose to use the IGNORE feature to reduce the volume of things I don't want to waste my limited time reading. Others maintain that they can ignore messages they don't like and I don't doubt their assertion. However, if I see text on my screen, my brain is going to process a significant amount of it even if I don't make a conscious choice to read it with intent. If I choose to avoid that and I don't want to quit reading INGO altogether, then the IGNORE feature is a simple, almost zero effort solution. The only kink is the fact that it won't also filter quotes.

I sometimes miss mrjarrel and hornady.

It is great that we all can make our own choice on whether we want to read someone else's post. There is no requirement that any of us have to hear or read someone else's speech.

I know what you mean. Like I've said before, I've played around with it and I found that even though it did what it was advertised to do, I found I spent more time deciding to see if I was missing something and wishing I hadn't un-hid what was hidden. Finally, I've decided it was easier to scan a post or simply scroll past based on what avatar I saw associated with it.

    I dream of that "innovation."

Back in the early 1990s when the unix text-based conferencing software like Picospan was around, someone created a unix utility for the WeLL he called the "bozo filter." Using it hid both the original messages and other users' quotes of anyone on the bozo filter list. It was awesome.

Ahh Unix is their anything it can't do? With the added benefit of the programmers having a sense of humor.

I liked him and he didn't like me....I would tell him he has valuable points but the point is often lost because of the snark......I know sometimes my humor may come across as snarky but that is never my intent....One day you pointed that out to me and because I think you are, in fact, the internet, from that moment on I tried to be more accommodating to those in which I disagree....It was during the dddress time....I believe I have already thanked you for that and if not I am doing so now....After you said that I went out of my way to engage kindly with dddress and even had him call me here at the shop....

I am fairly consistent but every now and again will say something that's out of character...When I did that you pointed it out and I corrected it...Kut does the same....Which is why I feel a kinship with him and you as well....I may not agree with you all but I do have faith in yourall's perception of things....If you all point something out that I, may have been out of line or out of sorts with who I am, I believe you.....And will work to correct it....

I am fortunate that I do not suffer from that problem!

Not much! A little unix and whatever flavor of C that is popular now goes a long, long way.

    Oh. Like... be user friendly?

    Hush, you!

    Fair enough.

Around that time, I was pretty critical of how seemingly everyone was out to get him (tends to happen with new members that haven't been given the chance to take in the climate around here). I probably used a broad brush when accusing some people of instigating and fishing for negative responses, which is where my comment to you came from at the time. I'm sure if I thought better of it back then, I'd not have been so curt about it. You tend to speak from a very genuine and positive place, after all.

When it comes to new members, I try to give them the benefit of the doubt when I see them posting in ways that will probably rile some people up. I just wish more people met those posts with positivity and attempts to correct the member instead of instigating them into an inevitable ban.
