I have about 14 inches of snow outside my living room window. All that snow is going to keep us cold a long time.

Rain without freeze is good this time of year. It firms up the soil that is muddy from freeze/thaw. We also need the nitrogen and higher water table for the growing season.

Of course, heavy rain to muddy soil does mean a lot will wash.

Good for farming. Horrible for our construction sites and getting the soil stabilized. It was warmer than they predicted in SE Indiana today. 69 degrees. I think the groundhog might have lied.

Went out last night to put the chickens to bed and noticed the backyard was full of night crawlers. Needless to say I had to pull a half dozen for the girls as a treat after a long COLD winter.

I came out of work yesterday and it was deafening with the sound of spring peepers. I'm sure they have gone back to sleep today. But they were sure awake and making some noise yesterday.

Sandhill cranes are flying over in large flocks. I believe I saw/heard the first ones in our area yesterday. This morning, I noticed the garlic is up about 3 inches. I guess I didn't dig it all last summer as I thought...must have missed quite a bit from the looks of the patch.

We had over 8 inches of rain in the past two days and flooding is everywhere!

Last rainstorm completely melted the snow in record time and today a bunch of towns are officially closed. They are now rescuing people from their homes...... with Zodiacs. Oh, and more snow on the way.

    Sign of spring? :dunno:
