I would also like to thank Kevin, Sharon and everyone else involved in putting on such a great event. This was my first endeavor at shooting beyond 100 yards. I am still absorbing everything I learned. I watched in amazement that a 75 year old battle rifle, following standard come ups(...while folks around me were using ballistic calculators), shot all those different yardages true to the numbers. When I messed up and doubled my adjustment on the 400 yard line and was advised by the pits that I was 4 MOA high, I made the proper corrections and that old rifle went right back down the range right on the money elevation wise.

One of the reason that I keep coming back to events is that I get to meet new folks. It is also fun to shoot with all the great folks I have met at past events. I can't thank everyone on the line enough for their encouragement and camaraderie.

Last but not least is that I met some really awesome, well raised young folks. I can't tell you how refreshing to me that is. I am finding that very common at Revere's Riders events.

Thanks again to everyone. I'll spend the summer working on my NPOA, my sitting position and my transitions from standing and see you all in October.

Oh...and least I forget: "DON'T WRAP THAT THUMB AROUND THE PISTOL GRIP!!!"

ETA: I meant to take more pictures; but, in all the learning I got distracted.

Here are the few that I took: http://s206.photobucket.com/user/TheJoker666_2007/slideshow/Reveres Riders Field Rifle February 2017

This was an awesome weekend! Thank you so much to all who were there making this happen. This was my first organized event I've ever been to. I came away with a much better understanding of shooting at a distance. The instructors were great and the other shooters were more than happy to give advice and help. This is definitely something I will do again.

Even though I didn't come home with a patch I'm very happy with scoring a 24 two different times considering I had never shot with a sling before Saturday morning.

An all around great experience with an even greater group of people. Well worth the drive down from the Fort.

Next time maybe I'll even put my iron sights on the right way and shoot at my own target every time. :D

Don't feel bad, my first event...I did that thrice to the fella shooting next to me...at 25 yards! I was shooting a SKS with my 4x-9x on 9x; he was shooting a 10/22. I was definitely "that guy" that weekend!

    :):

There's a reason you turn down the magnification on your scope. You want to make sure you are shooting the right target!

I wish scope MFG's would make Drop Compensator Hash marks work at lowest magnification instead of high :(
I probably bastardized the terminology, but you get my drift.

I kinda wish I could have experienced the wind with you guys... I could have learned a lot

Most bummerest moment? I still, to this day, have not experienced Huff's Balloon rush

I remember those days! When you didn't need 3.0's to adjust your sights, and read the crap you wrote in the previous stint of the log book!

Bought a set of these for the event. I configured right lens with top focal for dominant eye to see the sights and make adjustments. I used the uncorrected lens for non dominant eye to see the target. They worked really well for me.

You are supposed to test the focus by looking at a pencil tip at arms length. Go to a drug store and use the various powers to find the one you need.

If anyone needs the 1.25x let me know. Those are too strong for me & I'll be selling mine. I need 1.0. I only wear these with my contacts as I got special focal length glasses for pistol. They work OK for iron site rifle. I use my regular glasses for scoped guns.

Do you normally wear reading glasses? If so, were the ssp eyewear glasses the same power as usual reading glasses?

Oh yes, I'm wearing 2.5 right now at work. When you order the SSP, you can specify the power you need. Another benefit of the top focal is that on the range, I tended to look over my readers when not sighting which negates any protective benefit. The SSP has a 1/2 high by 3/4 inch wide area of correction that seemed to line up perfectly with my sight picture. So when not shooting, I could see without looking over or under my eye protection. In fact, last weekend was the first time I have shot without constantly struggling with lining up the readers and the optics.

I have a pair of the ssp's. They work well, but the target winds up way blurry for me, so I am looking at the full lens safety glasses in a 1.0 or 1.5 for a happy medium

What a great weekend. It was great meeting all you shooters, and I hope to see you again sometime. Thank you instructors, both the ones on the line and the ones in the pits. And thanks to Dave for pioneering the way many years ago to get us on the base. Thanks to Sharon for stepping up and doing all the detestable paperwork and making this event happen. I can't wait for the next one.

Well, apparently the forum software thinks this Flickr link is a phone number. I don't know how to get it to work. https://www.flickr.com/photos/hitscount/albums/72157676497638991

I'm sorry but I'm very glad to read other folks shoot the wrong targets. I almost ruined a guy's Appleseed qualifying score last October and I felt like a total spaz.

And me, of all people too! I still had my scope zoom set at ~6.5x which is what I used at 500 yards. 2 shots, reloaded and looked for the gap between my target and JVE then shot 8. I forgot Dave on my left wasn't shooting Sunday so saw that gap between targets and filled Nigel's full of holes. 1-3x is plenty of magnification at 300 yards and if I had turned it down would have seen the lane markers below the targets. Lesson learned!

I was on a friggin roll too and would probably have scored a perfect 40/40. All 10 shots at 400 were into 1 MOA.
