Looks like we're good to go in South Carolina.

"The licensing regime survives intact (after all, one would still need a license for open carry, and also for out-of-state reciprocity purposes,) although it would no longer be necessary for in-state concealed carry. In a big step forward, recognition would be automatically granted to all out-of-state licenses."

Did I miss it? As I read it, just their House passed the bill.

A campaign contribution to get an elected official to do their job? Golly, I guess that is the reality of today. Too bad.

I'm not sure that "write a letter that allows your citizens to carry (ETA: concealed) guns in another state" falls into his job description, it's just that that's how WV wrote their law.

I am sure, however, that someone will be along to identify some phrase within his job description that does fit that task.

Either way, though, even if it's not in his specific job description, there's no one else to whom the job can fall. It's a simple task, and sadly, I think he's had enough Washington time to think that anything someone wants him to do, he should be paid extra to do, over and above his paid salary.

Make no mistake, I prefer Pence to either the washed-up walrus or the neutered "educator"... but I'd prefer another personality type over any of them.

I was just in WV, which is said on page 1 that it does not recognize Indiana permits. Which is why I did not take my handgun. However a resident said that in WV residents do not need a permit to carry, that they can carry but it must be open carry, concealed carry is against the law. And that I as a non-resident can legally open carry in WV, but not conceal carry either. Does anyone know if this is the truth?

Edit: After some internet search, of saying yes/no to non-resident open carry in WV I found this link. I believe the resident WV was correct, that us Hoosiers can OC in WV, they just don't recognize our permits (license) so no CC, but at least we can still carry. I be packing next time.

Yes, WV is like the majority of states, carrying a handgun openly is not prohibited but concealing it is (without a recognized permission slip).

Your post is in need of an update. :D See post #493, copied and updated below.

    Just a quick update:
Our own recognition has not changed since my last posting of this information, however, two more states have passed Constitutional carry, though not in force yet. When Maine's new law is in effect, we will have 32 states (including our own)in which we may lawfully carry on our LTCH.

Here's a really good resource for that.

    https://www.usconcealedcarry.com/travel/

Sorry, Stocks... That site is in error. They say RI will recognize us. handgunlaw.us and usacarry.com both say otherwise, and a quick read of sec. 11-47-11 of the RI state statutes indicates that while they are required to issue a RI permit to a "suitable person" with "good reason to fear an injury to his person or property" or "has any other proper reason for carrying a pistol or revolver", they do not seem to give any recognition to any out of state permission slip at all.

I wish that was not true, but alas, RI recognizes no out of state permits at all.

    Blessings,
    Bill

WV requires either a signed agreement or a letter signed by the governor of IN to honor their permit/license. If no official signed agreement only a letter signed by your Governor is required. WV officials tried to read the law as the AG or someone appointed by him but those in control stated it had to be the Governor if no official agreement was signed.

West Virginia has still not changed the wording on the AG website that has a map titled "Gun Reciprocity."
    Gun Reciprocity

Looking at the map you would believe WV honors IN. THEY DON"T. You have to look at their brochure on Firearms
    http://www.ago.wv.gov/gunreciprocity/Documents/On the Mark 2015.PDF

on page 5 and you will see the same map but also a listing of states that WV honors. IN is not on the list. I have been trying for 2 years to get them to change that wording on their map and remove the word Reciprocity and put states that honor WV. Still nothing done to correct this glaring error that is very misleading.

Also Maine will be Permitless Carry come Oct 15, 2015. Maine has some quirks in their new law. You don't need a permit to carry there if 21 or 18 or older if in the military or Hon. Discharged Vet. The thing is the way their laws are written those carrying under Permitless Carry can't carry in any National/State Parks. While Bow Hunting or be covered under their parking lot storage laws in an employees parking lot. The way their law is written to carry in those places you have to have a valid permit/license issued by Maine or a state they honor. You can see that in their summary of the new law that goes into effect `10/15/15. http://www.maine.gov/dps/msp/licenses/documents/Summaryoflaw.pdf

Also Maine will not honor all other states permit/licenses when they go permitless carry. They will honor anyone who honors them and they will have a listing of those states. If they don't honor your state you can't carry in certain places under permitless carry that those with a valid permit/license they honor can.

Things are improving on places we can carry but becoming more and more complicated for us that travel to other states.

Keep in mind --when you are not a resident of Indiana (like I am now) then your indiana license to carry handgun become inactive ...so in florida there is no reciprocation available because i no longer have an active ltch (until i move back to indiana --and it should be reinstated- i beleve) but i heard from bubba at vicks hardware that it was going away LOL:):
