    Between corn and soybean fields.
I don't need a shotgun, but they're a blast to shoot and I sure as hell want one. Afterall, I'm sure we all have things we don't "need" ( I don't hunt ). With that said, I'm not looking for anything fancy. I just want something that goes boom when you pull the trigger.

What I'm looking for is a decent pump action 12ga shotgun, something that could be used for home defense, shooting pumpkins, or heck even trying to shoot clay again. Just looking for a basic, 'all around' type of shotgun.

Seems like my choices in this price range would be things like Winchester, Stevens, Maverick, Charles Daly, Norrinco, etc. Capacity isn't a big concern for me, but of course the more the merrier. :)

That price youre looking at a used Mossy or 870. My only shotty right now is a used 870 20ga I got for $240. I cleaned and lubed it and it shoots like a dream.

I would suggest a Remington 870 express with a 26" barrel and you could do all the things you listed. These go on sale at the big box sporting good stores often for around $279. sometimes with rebates available.

CZ 612, Stevens 820, Maverick 88, and some used 870s. If you don't mind 2 3/4" only you probably could find a decent condition Wingmaster for that

All good suggestions, like many said either a Mossberg 500 or Rem 870, with that bein said I have a friend that was just asking me if I knew anyone that wanted a Mossberg Maverick 88

Another vote for an 870. You should be able to find an express in your range. I bought a new 870 youth 20 gauge for less than $300 for my son. It is a handy little gun and the perfect size for a truck gun.

A lot of hype vs Wall Mart, but all those shotguns listed(Rem 870, Moss 500, Mavericks, 12 and 20 ga), for that price, new or less $. LGS were getting $75.00 and more for the same product. I only own 3 shotguns: Winchester Semi 1400, Mossberg 500, and a H&R Survivor(plastic stock w/ removable storage plate-Single shot). All are good to better, many opinions out there.

My favorite is the single shot for Deer hunting-light, short bbl-easy to swing in brush. Moss 500 is my tactical stocked, HD gun stocked with 00 buck to repel boarders, Winchester is clay birds, and pheasant/quail, multi purpose. You can't own just one!

Patience first and then a used 870 wingmaster (if 2 3/4 is not an issue, because the magnums don't pop up very often). They are out here and built like a tank. Can be made into whatever you want, but the foundation is solid.
