I'm still on the fence about building one of these in 10.5 or a 7.5 9mm. Ugh.

    Go 8" 300BLK. :yesway:

Bumping this up again although, the Noveske barrels are out of stock AGAIN. they had several listed as in stock just a couple days ago.

    I'm still on the fence.

I've got the big bore AR covered with a 458 SOCOM.

I've got a 3 lug 9mm YHM Wraith silencer on a sub gun. Shooting suppressed 300BLK subsonic would be easy using this can but not sure if I need it.

How well are these shorter 300BLK barrels (8.5, 12.2 or 14.5) doing out past 200, 300 & 400 yards when compared to 5.56mm? Accurate? Wind drift?

There is a recent article on this cartridge in latest issue of Guns and Ammo. It is comparable to the 7.62x39 if you want to ballpark ballistics out to 400 meters.

I think 7.62x39 would be a pretty good comparison. The mid weight projectils (110-150) will get velocities in the same range as the 7.62x39. Typically the ballistic coeffcient of the .308 bullets used is a bit better than the bullets used in milsurp 7.62x39.

Something else to keep in mind is that the 300BLK seems to top out around 11-12" as far as effective barrel length. What I mean by that is because of the faster pistol powders being used, the barrels longer than about 12" are not giving as much increase in velocity per inch (aka accelleration) as you get with the first 12" or so.

At any rate, you will start to see a lot of bullet drop past 200yds, and will see velocities that start to drop below what is needed for hunting rounds to expand.

Bump to say that its looking like .300blk is here to stay, as evidenced by folks still talking about it at the 2014 SHOT Show.

Here's Yeager talking to a guy from AA that looks like he could be Yeager's Dad.

And of course I still have no $$ for another upper. I know some other INGOers have picked up uppers and guns in the last year. Let's see what you guys got!

    It's 300BLK or 300 AAC Blackout. Not .300, no "."

I've seen it listed as all of those, even with a ".". A quick Google search turns up all kinds of results with a ".". Is this one of those things that so many people mistake that it becomes common? Lord knows my OCD won't let me continue using it if its wrong, lol.

I was trying to be funny.

I just didn't make the connection. I kept thinking "was my post whiny and complaining?" :)

Found this on an ARFCOM FAQ:

Q: If one were to make ammunition or firearms for 300 AAC BLACKOUT, how must the product be marked?

A: SAAMI markings must be used. The actual cartridge name is 300 AAC BLACKOUT or 300 AAC Blackout. Notice there is no "." before the 300 (SAAMI cartridges do not begin with a decimal). The official SAAMI short name is 300 BLK. 300 Blackout and 300 AAC are not allowed.

Edited: ha, you beat me to it...

Yep. It's common, but wrong. And I know you are one of the folks who like to get these things correct!
