One that I see ALL THE TIME is a 5-10 minute tense situation between an antagonist and protagonist... Guns have been out and pointed the entire time... but after saying some magnificent line, THEN and only THEN the character pulls the hammer back, or puts a round in the chamber.

Like... come on. That entire tense conversation you had, you were just 100% sure neither of you would fire on each other, yeah?

I think it was in "Tango & Cash" when Sylvestor Stallone and Kurt Russel busted into an apartment with guns pointed at the bad guys, when they were leaving Sylvestor Stallone racked a shell into his shotgun.

    1) When several dozen bad-guys armed with fully automatic weapons can't hit the good-guy. (martial arts movies are notorious for this)
    2) When the good-guy possesses an insanely unrealistic level of accuracy even though they have horrible technique. (Westerns where the gunslinger quick-draws, fires from the hip, and hits the bad-guy from over 50 yards away)
    3) When things that aren't bullet-proof are. (sofas, refrigerators, doors, etc.)
    4) When Shotguns blasts send bad-guys flying through the air as-if they were hit by a truck.

As a matter of fact this one clip manages to fit all of those cliches (plus a few more) into one shootout.

The one that always comes to mind if from Anaconda.. They fire a bolt action rifle like its a semi auto. I cant stand it, it actually ruins the whole movie for me and it takes a lot to ruin Jennifer Lopez in a white t shirt in the jungle.

When I pick my security team, I usually give full autos to the worst shots. Trust me, they need 'em.

When an enemy assumes a martial arts stance, I also have them drop the guns and go at him one after another.

Before I execute an enemy spy who has infiltrated my organization and is on the brink of destroying everything I've worked so hard to build for three decades, I usually give a long speech.

I usually use psychologically frightening, but often utterly ineffective means of execution.

Racking the slide, inserting magazine, firing...

The number of times a pump gun gets racked for effect before it ever fires a round and then it has 12 rounds.

One that I see ALL THE TIME is a 5-10 minute tense situation between an antagonist and protagonist... Guns have been out and pointed the entire time... but after saying some magnificent line, THEN and only THEN the character pulls the hammer back, or puts a round in the chamber.

    Dramatic effect. It does suck.

Same with someone hold a DA semi on someone and doing the dramatic hammer cock.

I watched a movie where every time someone would unholster their gun, it would make the slide racking sound.

I do hate the shotgun pumping. Bugs the hell out of me. Why even carry the gun if you're not gonna load it until after the enemy is right in front of you?

    found it!

I can't help but laugh hysterically at this.

If you hadn't found it, I was gonna link it.
I stuck that on my blog a few years back in a gripe I had about "movie stuff"... hilarious. I still link it here and there when the subject comes up.

The Big Bang Theory Shooting Range Negligent Discharge

guy takes girl to gun range on date, acts over confident and shoots himself in the foot.
Watched this with my overly liberal GF who I've been trying to get her to go to the range with me. Soon as it happened, she looks at me and says "See what happens". Ignorance is such an evil monster to fight.

    Here's the one minute clip of that scene;

Leonard Shoots Himself - The Big Bang Theory - YouTube

    As for one of the other things that gripe me, as I said elsewhere - stuff like when a cop (Martin Sheen) says to the widow/suspect (Nancy Travis) in "Gun" (episode 6);
"We determined what the type of weapon was from the slug that killed your husband...
    it was a .45 semi-automatic 15 round officer's model."
(And shows her a photo of a Colt Government.)

Every TV show or movie I've seen lately they rack the slide on their semi-auto handguns before they get ready to fire. Draw from their holster, rack the slide, re-holster the gun and redraw, rack the slide. Seems Hollywood guns won't fire unless you rack the slide. I watched one James Garner western, can't remember the movie's name. He and the townspeople were behind a overturned wagon. One of the townspeople fired 32 times with a Winchester 73 without reloading. No wonder the "73" helped win the west.

If you watch closely enough it is obvious which actor/actress has "Ever" held a gun let alone shoot it.

Having experienced a ND in my small shop both I and the wife understand how long it takes to re-gain any semblance of your ability to converse at a normal level after such an event. To carry on a normal conversation immediately after a firefight in a hallway/bedroom is idiotic.

Wow. You didn't mention the final Hollywood cliche at the end: The guy on the cell phone says "Over and Out". Not only is it weird to use that on a cell phone, that's not the way those words are used. "Over" means "I'm done with my statement, your turn to talk" and "Out" means "I'm signing off." You never use the two together...just like you never say "Roger Wilco" at the same time. Hollywood seems to think that's how you use a radio though!

I'm surprised nobody has mentioned magical bullet proof vests. Most of the time they don't even have any plates, just the soft vest and still manage to take a .308 to the chest and walk away.

hiding behind car doors when a guy with a ak is shooting at them, automatics never jamming even in full auto fire, unlimited ammo, shotguns covering whole alleyways in one shot, grenades that have 2 minute timers, propane tanks exploding when hit with a 9mm and "snipers" having crazy unreal accuracy.

Local media here in Boston referred to ammo found at an Aarron Hernandez apartment as being for a ".45 caliber Glock" like the one used in the murder he is accused of.......
Didn't know ammo companies were making model specific ammo. Must be a niche market for the rich and stupid....

This is mine. The number of unloaded guns being carried LEOs and military. They only rack the slide right before they are gonna shoot. In a similar vein, when they are threatening someone with a gun to the head and then rack the slide "for effect" like-"um, now I REALLY mean it, talk or else!" wtf, you were in combat with an unloaded gun?

Almost all of it is crap, but these two really **** me off...every gun, no matter the type of action has an audible click for setting the hammer in a threatening scene to put it in single action mode, and the absolutely terrible grip positions people have on the guns who are supposed to be pros!
