It still cracks me up when I see they have a provison against throwing stars.
Of all the things to be worried about; a Ninja on a rampage is pretty far down my list.

Are there any petitions or campaigns to push this through?

It died in committee for the year. The sponsor has indicated that he would likely not reintroduce it next year since it never gets a hearing in Rep. Davis's committee. I hope his constituents are proud of him.

For anyone else wondering...the law (that allows auto knives) did pass and Gov Pence signed it. It took effect on July 1st 2013.

There are still local ordinances against auto knives in some places and they would take precedence (hopefully the local ordinances will be addressed within the next year)

Well, the first post in this thread has been editted into incorrectness. IC 35-47-5-2 was not repealed. It was reformed:
    IC 35-47-5-2
    Knife with a detachable blade
Sec. 2. It is a Class B misdemeanor for a person to manufacture, possess, display, offer, sell, lend, give away, or purchase any knife with a detachable blade that may be ejected from the handle as a projectile by means of gas, a spring, or any other device contained in the handle of the knife.
    As added by P.L.311-1983, SEC.32. Amended by P.L.70-2000, SEC.2.; P.L.289-2013, SEC.21.

You will have to check your LOCAL ordinances to see if there are any stipulations on BLADE LENGTH or on AGE or any other restrictions.

What is legal in SOME areas of Indiana...MAY NOT be legal in other areas of Indiana....because some Cities or Counties have passed their own ordinances pertaining to restrictions on certain types of weapons.

So, as I understand it, if I have a 3-4" blade hunting knife and I leave it in the car when on school property, that I`m legal? The holster is looped on my belt. I hate to take it off at school. So I have just been leaving the knife in the car, leaving the holster on my belt.

I open carry a fixed blade knife everywhere I go, I have yet to get more than a couple glances from Leo's, mostly just compliments from folks I meet. Old timer w/ 3.5" blade, but I did just pick up a full size K-bar today at Bradis, I plan on carrying it and retire the old timer to work duty (junkyard)
