I recently purchased a Glock 19 to use as a CC weapon. My wife winced when I told her I was carrying a few weeks ago. We have since had a discussion on why she is concerned. She is not afraid of the gun itself, we have both been around guns most of our lives, her father is an LEO and rangemaster in a large city, I have been around guns since I was young.

Her concern is also not my reaction to a situation as I am very level headed and have a long fuse. She is more worried about other peoples reactions should they notice that I am carrying.

I dont know that this is a fight I want to take on.

Anyone else have an uncomfortable wife?

doesnt sound like a very hard fight to take on at all. if it's perfectly legal what does it matter about other peoples reaction. dont give in to cater to the sheep

I'm not going to give you advise- you know your wife, not me. However, if she is uncomfortable, but not making a fight out of it, if you carry and over time it's shown not to be an issue, that may help.

"I" am not trying to cater to the sheep, I really dont care what people think but this is not about them, it's about my wife.

Use the opportunity to educates those that have an issue. Maybe that will sway her. When it turns into a learning/education opportunity instead of conflict or issue. Learn the laws, and be able to speak to them. Much easier since you stated you have a long fuse. Maybe the people that have the "issue" are simply uneducated to the issues at hand. Then you can use the CC/OC as an education tool in addition to protection.

None of us know your wife, so none of us can give you actual advice. That said, I don't see how doing a legal act would concern her about what others think of you. Maybe there's more to this?

If you carry concealed it should not become a problem. Become good at not signalling to others that you are carrying. Discuss this with your wife. She can be helpful in pointing out whether or not you are keeping it concealed.

all im saying is, with what your wife is comfortable with, it seems like a silly reason to be worried about other people's feelings. so, dont give up on carrying and convince your wife to agree.

I would show her how well you can conceal carry. Show her that know one will know.

Ah, the old worry about others. Get a good concealed holster and where it around the house - see if she notices. If she can't, then neither can others.

You'll probably have to ease your way into this one. Try carrying in situations where she will feel comfortable. Once she realizes it's safe and secret, she'll loosen up.

EDIT: Do make sure you let her know you accept and respect her FEELINGS, but respectfully disagree. Try carrying in a place far from home and other - A park perhaps without others around? My wife was fine with my OC in Montana and Idaho, but here in our hometown she throws a fit.

I have been CCing for many years and have yet to be called out on it. As time goes by I'm sure your wife will get used to it and be more comfortable with you being armed, and the first time you guys are out at night or find yourselves somewhere where she feels a little unsure of her safety she might even be comforted by the fact that you are carrying.

When my wife expressed discomfort over the idea that other people might know I was carrying I told her she was acting silly and to grow up. That pretty much ended the problem.

    Your mileage might vary...
