Lets cut this to the chase.

Got my my son in the the 4H 22. Shooting Program last year. Almost got canceled because not enough kids enrolled.

Put daughter in 4H Archery before the movie. Hey when the movie came out it was great. Lots of kids enrolled.

Had Son enrolled in 4H Black Powder - Class cancelled lack of kids.

We all hear about the Bad stuff in the world. All I see is kids playing Internet Games that would make my Parents (God Rest) cover there eyes.

Who Is teaching the Next Generation how to live off nature? How many of you have taken your kids Squirel Hunting or Rabbit hunting in the last 5 years, or even just shooting clay pigeons.

How many of your kids know who Rhode is? Do You?

Support the Shooting Sports for the next Generation (KIDS) if we Don't do you think the politicians will.

All I see now a days are the advertisements for "Black Guns" (Why are the called that) How many of us remember the days (or Still Practice) taking the old .22 and trying to shoot the eye out of the Squirrel at 50 yards. Who Teaches there kids to sit and be pacient and wait to take the shot.

Its so easy to give the kids a 50 round clip and let them shoot instead of a single round and make them wait.

When was the last time you tried walking down the street and asked kids to go shooting with you.

All the parents remember the days when they shot with their parents but how many will let there children do it with you.

Lets all get the kids out in the Field.

I hear you, I have to teenage boys, my 17 year old has no interest, no problem I don't push my sport on anyone. My 15 year old shoots now and then, but lately has been asking to go to the range more often. there may be hope. I always invite parents and kids to the range whenever the subject is brought up. You just have to convert them one kid or family at a time. Everyone needs to make an effort to show other people that are sport is not dangerous. It is fun and rewarding just like any other sport.

I wouldnt worrie to much. I didn't get into firearms until I was 18 (I am 23 now) now thanks to plenty of practice and the experience of INGO memebers it's all I want to do. I used to to play a lot of computer games and hang ot with a few friends so firearms drew me away from that. Now i spend as much time outdoors and learning as much as possible. So don't give up hope yet.

Your children may well be like mine.... They learn that which they are taught... whether there is a class or not.

The teacher and the teaching is what matters.

I wish you and yours the best.

    Next Generation,

It is very unfortunate that your local 4-H program has such low turnout for the Shooting Sports program. I am fortunate that in Boone County, we have over 400 kids in our Shooting Sports Program. Both of my daughters shoot and I am a rifle instructor. We offer 5 disciplines: Archery, Rifle, Muzzleloader, Shotgun, and Pistol.

I don't know if this will help, but if there is another county near you that has a good 4-H Shooting Sports Program, you can participate there. You do not have to live in the county that your kids participate. We have several kids from outside Boone County. In fact, we have one kid whose parents drive from northwest Indiana every Saturday to participate.

Good luck in finding a program for your kids. Teaching the next generation is a great reward for me and all the other volunteers in 4-H Shooting Sports.

Helps to get a bit thicker skinned when a newbie. He was just setting you straight. A mag is a mag and a clip is not. That got me as well. Just saying.
    welcome to ingo..........:ingo:

Edit...my kids had computers but were not gamers. They had all the amenity's growing up but loved the woods, camping, boating but we did not hunt much. Did a lot of shooting and killed card board. Some varmint and squirrel but they were not interested in deer.
My son and I now hunt Coyote and we all go to the woods and the range whenever possible.

Some kids have fearful parents who kick them out at 18, and wait til they are 27 to get into firearms because of lease terms. :)

Nothing wrong with grammatikal meisters :)

im 21 and am lucky enough to have a family who loves guns. there is not much you can do to other than teach your own kids about firearms and find ways to get them excited about shooting.

I wasn't brought up in a "gun" family; there were a few there, but it wasn't a thing. I pretty much had to learn on my own. My mom was surprised; she didn't find pr0n or drugs or booze, but an AR15 in my room. I took my son to the 4H hunter education, and took the course myself. He actually beat me on the written test; he's so proud. He's more of a pistol guy than a rifle guy, and much more into airsoft right now, but it's here if he gets interested.

As long as you teach your kids the right way. When SHTF then you know that your kids will be prepared. I have to say, i am not as prepared as I would like, as I have never been hunting, but do know how to hunt, just not how to skin, etc. Although I do know other things to help survive as well. Have you tried the Boy Scouts, as they do shooting sports as well, although not very often either.

The Boy Scouts of America still teach rifle and shotgun, how to survive in the wild, how to cook, how to read a map, use a compass, and leadership skills you can't buy in a classroom. That's where I and my sons learned a lot about living. I recommend them highly.
