Brad of (Brads knives) and I went down to southern indiana this past Friday to do a little tree rat hunting, and all we got was a **** load of ticks.

After about an hour of walking around from spot to spot I nealed at the base of a tree to watch the trees for a min when I noticed about 50-60 micro sized ticks crawling on my left arm. So I brushed them off not thinking much about it. I went back to looking at the trees and just seconds later felt something crawling on my arm again. When I looked down, my left arm was full of them again. WTF.

So after looking around for a min to find where they were coming from, I noticed that they were all over my paints. And everytime I rested my arm on my legg, they would crawl on to my arm. At this point I'm kind of in shock because I have never seen anything like this before. Let alone on me. I've never had more then two on me ever at the same time.

I stripped and changed clothes, brushing all I could see off, I thought I was ok. After I got home that afternoon, and showered, scrubbing a few more off in the shower, my girlfriend and I, found 42 more of them bedded on my legs and had to slowly pull them off one by one. Now I feel like I have chickenpocks again. Little red bumps all over my legs that itch like crazy.

Anyone else had any like incidents? Seen any crazy amounts of tics? I have never even herd of such an encounter.

Beware of ticks - I ended up with Lyme disease- went undiagnosed for years. It got into my brain, heart everywhere. They were telling me I had ALS, MS parkinsons. I did a lot of research and asked for a lyme blood test - sure enough I was positive. I had been bitten by ticks of and on through the years - I am an outdoorsman. Never had the "lyme rash". Took antibiotics for 3 years to get me in remission. It still flares up and I will never be the same. Lost my health at the ripe old age of 38. Please beware of ticks.
BTW - when I was a teenager I had cancer, chemotherapy and radiation did not make me as ill as Lyme disease.

If I were you I would go tot he doc and get a minimum of 2 weeks of antibiotics - tell him you had tick bites and are reacting

I had one that embedded it's head into my side. That was scary enough.

I have found one crawling on my arm last year after checking my trail cameras but I will be very cautious this week when I do the same.

Is there a safer time of the day, morning or evening to be in the woods ????/

Dad told me a few years ago he was out at our woods with... I can't remember... and saw a half rotted stump just literally crawling with ticks... So I can believe it, I've just never seen that many at once myself, and hope I never do. Bugs don't bother me normally, but ticks on me are an exception to that rule...

    Not far from the tree
    Permenone

Permenone is a brand name. Spray your hunting clothes very well, like till they're good and damp then let them dry overnight b4 you wear them. You'll find dead ticks in the folds after a hunt. Duck tape at the ankles where your boots meet your pants helps too.

I used advantix one year. It's kind of hard to apply to yourself between the shoulder blades but it keeps me from licking it off. Worst part was the overwhelming urge to pee on everybody's tires.:D

This ^^^ go get yourself some permethrin....

Oh, and small money saving tip, don't buy the diluted stuff at right next to the repellants. Buy the concentrated permethrin in the pesticide isle. It's normally sold as carpenter ant killer.

Then, dilute the permethrin down to .5% and put it in a spray bottle. Coat all your clothes....

I use the stuff for everything... I spray around my wood piles to keep carpenter ants from migrating to my house, and I use it everywhere I want to kill any insects.

Don't pull them out. A drop of lighter fluid or kerosene will get them to back out. If you pull them out, usually the head will get left behind in the skin.

I have been told that dryer sheets tucked into your shoes keeps them away. You know, fabric softener dryer sheets? I have not tried this, but it seems worth a try..

    North of you
I had the same thing happen to me when I was younger and hunting squirrels with my dad. Took a shower, and sat down to watch tv. Looked at my arm and saw one of my freckles moving. Ended up with over 100 of the little things, mostly around the "warmer parts" of my body. I hate ticks! I always called the little ones "seed ticks". Not sure what their proper name is.

It was a bad deal...I have been hunting at this particular farm for over 20 years and I have never seen anything like this. I had a few on the outside of my clothes but nothing like Billyboy...he had hundreds if not thousands on him......the little bastards were all over his legs and arms and who knows where else. My hunting pants tie at the ankles and I was wearing rubber boots that came up to just below the knees...I think this may be the only reason I didn't find any on my legs.

I'm just glad Billyboy had an extra set of clothes with him, because it would have been a long ride (2 1/2 hours) back home riding in the bed of my truck.:D
