Saw a quick clip for this advertised today. It sounded VERY anti-gun.

Apparently he follows the ATF around and reports on "the fight against gun crime in America".

Just wanted to give a heads-up. I've got my DVR set.

I saw this advertised too. I dont have MSNBC though, but it looks to me like a "nice way" for NBC to start the process of pushing the public mindet for another AWB.

I saw the intro to this on the 'today' show Friday and thought the same way as well. But, they had the one ATF agent on the show with them and he was quick to point out that there are law abiding gun owners, but they were going after the illegal gun owners/runners/etc.

But, Im sure they will put an anti-gun slant on the entire show.

    Watching Roker on MSNBC

While in the ATF vault, did I just see the ATF agent handle a 50 caliber rifle and say it was a Browning Machine Gun and then say that 50 Caliber and down you can buy like a 22; thereby, making it sound like buying a 50 caliber machine gun was as easy as buying a 22?

I'm sitting here at work watching this and so far its been "OK".

Sure Al has the basic "I've never shot a gun" mentality, but at least they are focused more on the "crime" aspect, and not so much "all guns are bad". They went after gun stores pretty hard for straw purchases. But they were balanced as they showed the right way, and the wrong way.

Funny part: An ATF agent shows Al a "sawed off shotgun". Al holds up the buttstock and says, "yeah you can see the saw marks".

He admittedly has never fired a gun before, and he talks about the "power" of the Glock 17 after he fires it using a terrible grip.

".50 Browning Machine Gun" (aka .50BMG) is the proper name of the caliber; the agent was probably not saying the rifle WAS a "Browning machine gun," although I can certainly understand the potential for confusion there.

And that "potential for confusion" is why a responsible journalist would clarify that the "Browning Machine Gun" is the designation for the cartridge, not that the rifle itself is a machine gun.

A responsible journalist would do that. Too bad that "responsible journalist" bears a striking resemblance to such phrases as "jumbo shrimp," and "friendly fire." And such beasts languish alongside dragons and unicorns in the lexicon of creatures that never were.

I'm not entirely sure what to think... It wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be going in. Not once did they mention any kind of ban, although they did seem to try their best to show the "scary" guns a lot. The usual media emphasis on "assault weapons" still applies.

The fact that it was concentrated on crime and guns bothered me a little as it did absolutely nothing to show anything about guns in a positive manner. It was all "bad people doing bad things and how we're working to stop them."

And the usual annoying technical errors aside (although the sawed off moment was rather amusing) I think it was a nice breath of fresh air to actually hear about methods of reducing gun crime that work for a change... And without making any of mine illegal.

In the end though I think it would be nice to see a follow up that concentrates on the legal, everyday kind of person, side of things. Show the other side of the story, with a positive twist on it. I'm not holding my breath, but I guess we'll see what happens...

I didn't see much of it as I was watching the Colts try to lose, but I did hear Al say the Glock 9mm was a favorite choice of law enforcement as well as criminals. So which Glock owners on INGO are law enforcement, and which are criminals?:D

    a 6 sauer!!! ahhahahahaha

See? who needs micro stamping with ballistics testing!

.223 a High Power Rifle? Oh sheesh... Common in street crime? What?!?!

And you're right, he did make it sound like a MG. Also he did say it was just as easy to buy a .50 as it is a .22. And it is, like you said, if you have the money! LOL

I'm glad to see a state trooper, Kentucky or not, that is protecting our rights. Hats off gentlemen/women.

Good ol' El Caminos! Indestructible POS! LOL

Okay, now what I seem to not understand, is how criminal who breaks into a rich guys home (who's house you can't appreciate until you see it in person), is the focuse of this "Illegal Guns" story. They use all these scary word like Assault Weapon, and High Power and High Caliber and High Capacity and High Suspect... But none of this has ANYTHING to do with illegal guns. Sure, he SMASHED into house and used them without permission. But this isn't how criminal obtain weapons. Yes, some steal them, but some come illegally into this Country or are done by straw purchases. So what do we do about SP's? Follow every gun buyer home to see where the gun goes? GPS devices on the guns? Seriously. You can't stop it unless you ban all guns and destroy them. Oh wait! Then we have another Pakistan here where 7 y/o's are making them by hand! Wow. Just wow.

Oh I like the fact also that they see giving only law enforcement higher caliber guns and full-auto's as a good thing and that they never mention the fact that the General Public can respond faster than any PD in the nation save for those times when a crime is committed next to the cop shop or dunkin doughnuts. No ill-will intended to any LEO's but you get my point. They never once mentioned us as gun owners being white knights that save people by simply showing the BG we are armed. Nothing at all. Didn't expect anything less from MSNBC. At least Al got to shoot a full-auto. Was that a Thompson he shot? I couldn't tell. I was too busy laughing about his shooting of the Glock! Looked like the video of the Wife Shoots the Desert Eagle! LOL

Oh and then they try to demonize the NRA. What crap. Someone needs to smack Al with a copy of the Constitution along with the letters of our Founding Fathers.

    :puke:

I have it saved on my computer. I'd send it but I'm not sure where or how to upload a 1.38GB video file... And no, I have no idea how to use the Adobe Video editing software. I haven't made it that far! LOL
