Washington (CNN)- Republican presidential hopeful Mike Huckabee says expecting Christians to accept same-sex marriage is "like asking someone who's Jewish to start serving bacon-wrapped shrimp in their deli."

Huckabee compares being gay to drinking, swearing - CNN.com

How in the world is that even related? And yet another Republican falls on his sword. I know Cuck Norris is his friend, but not even he can save him.

    I am a Christian.

I do not "accept" homosexual marriage.

However, as far as I'm concerned and from what I can tell of the US Constitution; there's no grounds to "ban it".

However However, there's just as much in "favor" of a ban as there is in "favor" for hetero/traditional marriage.

Kut, it's just a different world view. It ain't no big thing. People get to believe and say crazy stuff. If Bill Mahr gets to believe the middle class was created by socialism, what's wrong with the Huckster thinking that gayness is a vice to be given up as easily as making a new years resolution? Either allow all the crazy, or ridicule ALL the crazy. Don't be selective in which crazy you want to ridicule. It's all around us in all ideologies.

I actually read the article. If a reader really believes the quote in the OP is the crux of what he's saying, didn't read very closely.

Let's NOT focus on the religious aspects. I'm focusing on the freedom aspect. How is it even remotely comparable to force a private business owner to serve something in his restaurant, versus allowing people of the same sex to be married? I don't see how people are affected in the latter. Does seeing/knowing something one considers offensive qualify as a loss of freedom?

What do you mean it's a party joke? Meaning it won't ever get passed or it's a bad idea? It's a FANTASTIC idea and could jump start our economy like never before.

I just don't want a national sales tax. I'd rather have what I call the "put your money where your mouth is" tax. It's a low flat income tax that everyone pays, and can only be used to fund the constitutionally necessary functions of government. Anything beyond that is voluntary. No deductions. No exemptions. If you think the government needs to fund studies on the effects of cow farts on global warming YOU pay for it. If you think the government needs a Department of Education, YOU fund it. If you think the wealth of the nation should be redistributed, redistribute YOURS. Voluntarily.

Yeah, if people actually abided by it. A 20%+ tax, on goods and services is a HUGE incentive to try and avoid it. You want to see the mother of all black markets, and an increase in domestic smuggling? Pass the fair tax. Only a rich person would be so naive to think that anyone lower than middle class wouldn't seek better "options" to fulfill their needs.

How is it not related? One person's Holy Book tells them what not to eat. The other's tells them what not to participate in or condone. What's the difference?
Except the SSM debate is not about participation or condoning, and never has been. It's about whether or not to use the coercive power of the state to prevent other people from participating in or condoning that which those in positions of power do not want participated in or condoned. Would Mike Huckabee tax people to fund police and courts and prisons to shutdown operas and ballets? I don't think so. Would he see people's lives ruined and taken at the point of a police rifle and prison sentences to have the government ban swearing? Most likely not. Would he do all of that to see gay marriage banned and all those who would participate in and condone that form of the institution of marriage stifled? Yes. I think he would do that in a heart beat.

Not a huckster fan at all, but really? I think you think he's saying more than he's saying.

I may be odd, but here's what I'd do with Huckabee's flat tax. First, before the tax went into effect, I'd buy every conceivable consumable good I think i needed (tvs, phones, furniture), then I'd refuse to buy any big ticket item unless I absolutely had to. Obviously food and clothing are a must, but I'd eat out much less, and that snazzy new suit or designer shirt would stay on the rack. I honestly would be hoping it would fail, and just ride it out for a few years until the govt found out how horrible a mistake they've made. I think it would be very difficult for the govt to keep a budget that is based on the whims of the populace, and imagine a LOT of institutions (not just the ones we don't like) would be underfunded.
